Default Tightening the harmonic balancer bolt on JZ's

What are some easy and safe ways of stopping the engine from turning over besides an SST in an auto. I want to make sure its done up tight enough so that it doesn't come loose and destroy the crank.

    rattle gun

failing that put it in gear and chock the wheels and have hte handbrake on and use a big bar.
clutch will slip at some point, but by that stage im sure it will be tight enough to not come undone.
the engine spins in the do it up direction anyway...

    rattle gun?

im not sure how auto boxes work (never touched the icky things) but what happens if you put it in gear with brake on?
    or in park?

I used a rattle gut to do it up. But you would need a massive one to do it tight enough. You can't stop the engine turning with an auto if you put it in gear/park.

not much good the engine is still complete and in the car

id be looking at making an sst that bolts onto the front crank pulley like a two prong pin spanner with a pair of very high tensile bolts screwing into the pulley. then have a nice long bar and an assistant holding the crank in place whilst you hit it with a torque wrench and do it up.

I screwed the torque wrench... I just put a breaker bar on it and hit it with a baby sledge till it wouldn't turn no more.
I figured I wasn't really going to get it tightened up to factory specs anyhow.

In front of the flex plate there is a cover you can remove to undo the screws which hold on the torque converter. Take it off and put a piece of steel, wood etc between one of the screws and the housing .When you do the engine will not turn , Worked for me.
