22r and transmission for hilux.
well my plans of putting a 1ggte into my lux have been stomped on by my parents and there responsibility bull****
so now im going to be putting in a 22r.
i also would like to get rid of the 4 spd column shift and put a 5 on the floor.
a couple of question, wheres the best place to get 22r's from?
which 5spd transmission thats popular and strong which bolts onto the 22r?
should the 22r go into my 1987 hilux which originally has a 1Y engine?
cheers.

Re: 22r and transmission for hilux.
dunno much about hilux's, but many 22re's are found in RA65 1985 celicas, and RT142 coronas.

Re: 22r and transmission for hilux.
im not sure about the mounts but it shouldnt be too hard to put in both of them being carby
may have to fabricate the mounts but it may bolt in using newer model 22r brackets
about where to get one i am pulling out motor and box after christmas for engine conversion so if you still need one then let me know

well from what i can gather, my model hilux was available with the 22r but im unsure if it had different mounts.

if it was available with 22r chances are it will be a bolt in using the 22r mounts and gearbox mounts

Re: 22r and transmission for hilux.
depends what your after
my 22r and 5 speed goes ok i think if i was keeping it the first thing i would do is change the diff ratio to take advantage of the bottom end torque of a 22r, reving the crap out of them gets you nowhere and my 1st gear is pretty useless but if i was to put a taller diff ratio i would stay in 1st for longer

yeh, but if i go for a non hilux box then they have different ratios...more performance inclined.
