ZE piston weight

Just got thinking after this post that a set of late ZE pistons and a shaved head could be a nice, economical basis for a good NA motor..

I don't suppose anyone knows what the late ZE pistons weight in at?

No... I dont think anyone has weighed them yet. There was a thread about piston weights not long ago. There were a few pistons with there weights recorded but no GZE.
I have some too weigh but dont have the scales to do it!

I've got both, but they're about 6,000km from me at the moment.
They're quite a bit heavier than regular GE pistons though Isuspect, being forged.

I seem to recall the pistons from my ZE weren't that heavy, but didn't think to weight them. Unfortunately, they are in a car now

why do you want such low compression?

If you mill the head, you can get around 11:1 from a 9:1 piston.

ah ok, thats where i thought you were going, but the thread you mentioned only showed around 9.4:1 as the "new" CR.

That's with 0.023" taken off, if you take off 0.050" off you get a heap more squish area:

umm, i weighed them.. they were late model GZE pistons...

piston weight for GZE AE92 0.5mm oversize

about 305grams

pin weight = 100grams

total, about 405 grams

the pins are also 4mm wall thickness...

Thanks - That's 5g less than the weight of the silvertop 20v pistons I've got in the shed...

they are 310 or 410 total? goddamn, i thought the GZE slugs were heavy buggers!!

There might be a couple of grams of oil in there and it's standard size, but the weight is close.

Just found this thread on club4ag. It looks like the blacktop pistons are heavier than the silvertop ones! I didn't expect that - particularly with the thinner rods...
