    Question 3sgte water pump question

    Hey!

I'm trying to find out about the two pipes coming from the back of a water pump on a 3sgte.. Are they inlets, outlets or one of each?

    I've heard some different things..

From a google search I found this image:

which implies one is an inlet, one is an outlet.. (Labels: 'Coolant from Turbo' and 'Coolant to Water Pump')
EDIT: It implies both are inlets actually..

Yet I've also heard that both are outlets, and one is an inlet, one is an outlet!

    Can anyone confirm?

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

This is the cooling system in regards to the GT4. The MR2 is similar.

LOL ok I'm more confused now...

Lets call the top pipe which is labelled 'Coolant From Turbo': PIPE 1
and bottom pipe which is labelled 'Coolant to Water Pump': PIPE 2

So what is PIPE 1 and PIPE2? Inlets, Outlets, or one of each?

I've got a 3sgte toyota engine manual at home I will confirm tonight.. But I am very sure both are inlets.

The coolant flows out the back of the head, and naturally it will flow back to the pump (thermostat area).

The other one comes from the inlet side of the block and again flows back to the pump (picks up the coolant from the turbo along the way).

PIPE 1 & 2, coolant flows from them into the back of the pump. Will try and take a photo of the manual to show you..

Lance has already posted the coolant diagram.. So yes, as you can see, both inlets.

I swear it looks like both are inlets, but both can be outlets as well..... since the coolant gets recirculated for some bizzare reason....

    The arrows show inlets though?

It looks like the turbo inlet comes out of the radiator return pipe?

the one labelled 'coolant from turbo' (pipe 1) is what i used as the feed for me turbo, the turbo returns coolant to the radiator return pipe, well that is what i thought anyways, the BGB shows it differently.

i guess for the turbo is didn't matter too much cause mine is plumbed up sorta like stock, whichever way the water goes is a bit irrelevant.

    as for pipe 2....nfi
