My only dislike about the reputation system is that its implementation has affected the number of parts for sale greatly... only two pages of parts in over two months!

I know its probably unfeasable but could it be possible to ask permission from the mods for an OK to post an ad... but then again mods have better things to do that read ads and ok them...

    hmm... oh well
    Relax, i'm with goatse...

That was all done on purpose, and while right now its it having a huge impact, within a few months (3-6) a large portion of people on this forum will have the ability to post in the for sale section.

As with everything, in stopping the abusers, you somewhat punish the good ones.
This way the good ones are not punished, but instead encouraged to contribute to the forums.
With positive contribution, you get rewarded with being able to sell stuff, for free, to a target audience.

i still like the rep system... i dont have that much as you can see BUT since the new forum and the introduction of rep the amount of slander towards people/threads has almost disappeared and THAT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!

i can now read a thread the whole way through and not get the shits cause someone has started to crap on about others FANTASTIC... i just wish i knew as much as others here so my rep can increase

but i must agree about the wanted section though... i dont believe you should have a certain rank before you can ask for parts... selling i completely agree though, the old forums had too many hand warmers for sale

    cheers

Like you said in a previous post.... Once the Forums goes through puberty things will settle down alot... At the moment there are only a few forum leaders who are activly contributing to set the standard to the forums and are recieving rep based on that.

I would like to see a sliding scale of how much rep power you can dispence on 1 person but in all reality it will be months --- > years before a significant number of people get to the point of a rep power of 3 or more. and for the short term I don't have an issue with dispensing 2 or 3 rep votes as this (in the short term) will assist with the whole getting through puberty bit.

The other thing I would very much like to see is people giveing rep based on conduct on the forums (more for the point of getting through the puberty bit) whislt researching I have come across several people who are obviously researching similar ideas. and rather than starting a new thread I can actually track the fact that they are searching for information before the question is asked. Also I have given rep for people that handle themselves well in a situation that on the old forums would have resulted in the thread being locked.

The point being that not every one that frequents these forums are tech heads, at a guess I'd say there are about 5-10% that could potentially answer in just about any thread. Oldcorollas is a case point. he has posted some top shelf information and his rep reflects that. but for noobs and non technical users I think people should concider the way in which they adhere to the rules. those 5-10% of people that should realise this will keep the system in check.

oldcorolla's - I don't thin an increase in your rep power should effect the way you giv out rep - the fact that you have a significant rep indicates that you obviously know your shit - and as someone who is a technical dofus, I am more likely to take notice of what you say. However you got the rep for being who you are so you should continue handing it out in the same fashion.

would it be possible to see all your Rep in your UserCP instead of just the latest received rep? (whether this be another link or whatever..)

it looks to me like admin have been purging stupid bad rep comments like "because your a fag" from users which is time consuming and really appreciated, so thank you for this!

Hmm a few things with the automation etc. I recently got my 30 rep. As a joke(and bein a smartass ) brett decided to find out if my avatar would dissapear if he negged me down to 29. He did this, and i still had full priveledges, including posting in for sale. Since then, another person has taken a liking to something I posted, and im back up to 30, but i think there may be some hysteresis or delay in the whole gaining/losing priveledges. Also, stu gave me pos rep for my windscreen thread, and that was when he only() had about 92 rep, and it counted 2 rep powa. Also, it seems takai has 2 rep powa too. Do these ppl get their extra rep powa early because they are members??

just out of curiosity... could someone explain to me what causes neutral rep?

is that a database corruption or is there a reason that causes it? whether it be guest viewing... etc..etc.. it may have been covered before, i just couldnt find the thread on it.

neutral rep is when someone has less than 10. they lose their rep power, and so cannot add or remove points for anyone.
they get their rep power of 1 back when the reach 10 again.

and some ppl have more than +2 rep... just be happy when you get it
