i find the rep system pretty good actually, lets you tell someone, regarding a post of theres if it was either good or bollicks,

but what i have found out is more people use it to neg rep someone rather than to give the good vibe back.

    my 2c.....

I disagree, ive recieved 23 rep points and only one has been negative...you will find that if you constantly post bs then people will neg rep you more than they wlll positive

If you had read this thread, you'd know that that's just not true.

    Yes.

2DRFT I was a little concerned that people were using too much negative rep but from examining the over all results I'm happy that it's not the case. Sadly I'm sure there are a few people who only give negative rep but as a whole I think most people are using it responsably.

just a quick question (in the absence of other current rep threads) regarding rep power.

as your rep goes up, do both your pos and neg rep power increase?

and this rep system is a bit like puberty.. once people get through it, they settle down, whinge less and become more mature about things

Your rep power increases everything 100 rep. So you should have a rep power of 2 now.

Use your (rep) power for good, not evil...

just means i need to be twice as careful in considering who gets feedback, both good and bad...
also means people will notice it more.... hmmm.. is that a good thing?

might be better if you can choose how many points to give.
    a sliding bar maybe?;

    min------------|---max

some posts might only deserve 1 or 2.

once people get up to stage where they can deal out 10 rep, they probly wont be giving any rep at all. only to the supernerds or the supernoobs

the question was asked, but i suppose the point of giving people mroe rep power is that their opinion of what is a good post should matter more, and thus those doing the posting are rewarded further...

as long as ppl don't get all egomaniacal about it, it should still work ok.

for me i think it may slightly raise the bar as to what is a good post, but the basics are still there..
contributing either through knowledge, asking good questions, stimulating discussion, or being a particularly funny bugger about something perhaps
