Hilux front brakes

erm, YN57 SR5 doesn't need commercially rated tyres... only the NON SR5 ones have it.

You may be right, but what evidence do I have. Everyone for the past 25yrs has told me I need 103 load rated tyres.
I'd love to be able to show them otherwise and tell them to stick 103 up their arse & that my performace passenger tyres are legit.

here's the original brochure - notice the 185 SR 14's for the SR5 models.

and speaking of brakes, something to be aware of, the SR5's ran different brakes to the other hiluxes - useful stuff to know when you are replacing the slave cyl's etc

also notice that the GVM is 500kg lower for the SR5

I've done a quick search, nothing shows about their load rating.
Has anyone still got an original tyre spec plackard

well according to this page http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/...e/markings.asp the S speed rating (180km/h - pretty optimistic for a stock hilux) and based on the GVM (2050 for a SR5) i would assume it would require a load index of 85 (a 515kg/tire) - if thats the way it works...

Your rear axle rating @ 300kgs lighter then my RN85R and my required load rating is ment to be 104/105. The GVM on yours is also @600kgs lighter. You should be able to get your tyre shop to tell you your load rating if you give them your GVM. Just don't tell them its a Hilux's GVM.

I just looked up master cylinder sizes in the Australian Truck and Auto Parts catalogue and it lists the MA70 and Hilux as the same size, 25.4mm. The Nissan Skyline R32 isn't listed but all other Skylines (R30 & 31) are only 22.5mm. So for those that were/are doing this front brake conversion or the rear disc brake conversion, I can't see that there is any point in changing the MC.

A litle more info. The original dunlops had 1360lb max load rating. Tyre rating will always exceed the GVM by some margin. So it's more likely to be 90~92ish. But it still doesn't really help when pulled up for a vehicle inspection.

1jlux: the SR5 mast cyl is a different bore too.. (but it doesn't make any difference - im now using a 'normal' hilux one)

greybeard: at least you can argue the point with them.. get them to look it up.. alternative being that we find a pic of a tyre plackard (or fake one) get it made up and stick it on.

Can you post up the L x W x H of that spacer and the material you used. that would be much appreciated. Or better still, are you in a position to make up some more? I would cover costs and postage if so.

I just want to see if i'll have enough clearance using my 15" wheels. I need bigger brakes, bit hard to slow down these days.... hahaha

The spacer's started as a single piece of 75x??x130?? steel. It was a uncommon thickness so was hard to find without needing to be ordered. It was cut down the center to give 2 pieces 30mm wide at the shop I got it from which was difficult to do (saw wasn't a big enough blade). It was then taken to a backyard mechanic who milled it down to 30??x20x130??. I will measure the length and width tomorrow and post the exact measurements.
After Easter I'll get the broken bolt out of the caliper and finish this upgrade. Then I'll do the MA70 rear disc conversion and take it to a brake shop to get the bias set right.

just adjust the brake bias with the load sensing valve. it is quite straight forward.

I was going to remove the load sensing when I do the suspension 'cause it'll be applying the bakes all the time when I lower the truck.
