probly wanting around 1000hp....maybe a bit more. something that will run 9s consistently, dipping into 8s perhaps...car would need to be tubbed...
Surely a very light, turbo-ed (maybe gassed?) rotor like the 13BT corolla would be a cheaper and faster 9 sec option than some big block crown? If you just want a V8 drag car than buy a holden/ford/chrysler that gives you as many options as possible. I know a couple of 350 and 400 chev powered LJ torries that run very low 10s (ie 10.01) with 9" diffs and powerglide trans. It hardly seems worth the effort to do a toyota unless you some fetish about toyota bodies and "bogan" motors?

BTW don't you start with a time/ET goal, then calculate weight of desired vehicle, then calculate required HP?

you obviously dont know me very well, i like to be "different"...hence i have a worked 302 windsor powered ma61, a vp commodore powered hilux..

every bastard has a 10 sec falcon or commodore / holden / ford / mazda rotary...i dont know of anyone with an old v8 toyota running times....dare to be different is what i say...i like doing things that make people say "what the fuck!!??"

edit, im also doing this because i know how to work v8s, i know fuck all about rotarys, and i dont know enough about efi turbo motors to do everything myself...

    halla fcuking you yah

the man is talking some sence and no body wants to listen to him,

umm make you want to build your drag car fine start with a toyota, like i said before KE rolla, build it, then improve on it,

its the only way you are going to get there because there is no use wasting time with threads like this,

MS-75 on the forums is running in the 10s and he doesnt have a 1000HP and IENIL8 from trick and mansweto ( capri ) made a 1000HP on the summernats dyno this year but it ran a 7 from memory and it also had all four wheels off the ground,

best bet is to get a cheap car that you would like to work on, modify it slowly till you reach your goal, or buy desired model of toyota take to workshop tell them you want to run 9's and you want it done in yadda yadda months then go back pay the bill and head down to the track

    /end rant

P.S i just read your post,

QSTN: why 302??? its a very old motor why cant you go 383 that would be sure to get you in the 10's with a NA motor??

TA022 13B like man with balls every one has got one??? mate australia is so behind with rotaries its not funny they are running low 7's with the 13B in PR and here we cant get past 7.7's so there is alot more room for improvement before we can move along

sean gannon has about 900hp at the motor now, and the trick mansweto capri has over 1200rwhp. thats the difference between 10.4 and 7.86

yeah but a wagon isnt the most areodynamically friendly car....and the ms123 are heavy as fuck and also irs....

rt104 is possible, as is an ms55 or a mx32 sedan, i wish ae86 and t18 engine bays were bigger....

dqikist - i am not made of money mate, i appreciate your input, but this is "my car" and i will do it the way "i like"

Phil - what the hell is a 787b?

umm i think you will find the difference is in the suspension set up and things like that, its not always the HP figure that measures the ET,

also difference between 10.4 and 7.86 is the cheque book

robs leaning towards the good ol 302 windsor,

P.S ive seen a RA28 with a 308 and a TA22 with a 302, you might be able to get a TA22 with a 289 in it then bore it out just maybe i dunno,

of course 700HP helps but i think that you get more response out of a NA car compared to seans turbod car,

any one got a pic of the capri off all fours???

Phil, im thinking either a 460 ford or a 454 chev...

chev seems to be more parts available, probly cheaper in the long run

ford seems to be easy to find the motors, aftermarket goodies not as cheap and common as the chev tho...

this is going to be a fucking long project, i just want to know what car im doing it to so i have an idea...and whilst the cars are free near dubbo, im going to put one aside

Basically, its a big block supercharged motor, 9" full spool diff, powerglide trans, roll cage, maybe a chute pending on the expected HP output...

nah dude i have a worked 302 in my supra, say around 450hp, but the motor is just too small for the times i want..i was thinking of a 351, but why not go bigger for a little more?
