I'll chime in here as I've played a little with the 7M too. Dont do camshafts unless you are going for a big turbo. I put a pair of HKS 264 /8.1 lift cams in mine when I had the hi flowed CT-26 and it made a little less power and lost midrange torque. The motor felt alot "softer" to drive. Though the power no longer dropped off past 5500 or whatever it was rpm and was now sustained to 7000rpm.

While the stock pistons will hold to a good power level, while its apart put in a set of forgies and also go 20thou over as honing on standard bore size with old motors can be hit and miss, just as 7M builds can be in general it seems.

I managed to make 300rwkw on the HKS bolt in intercooler but now run a TRUST unit. The HKS one had standard size outlets and my turbo to intercooler pipe was only 50mm diameter, cooler to TB was larger. The Trust cooler has larger outlets and I changed my piping to suit. Hard to find these intercoolers now. Problem as you know with 7M is the outlets need to be on the same side which makes it a little harder to do piping

    Hope some of this helped
    Dan

Thanks for that info, well and truly confirmed that it's not worth the effort of swapping cams, even if they were free.

    HKS_TRD:
What size would that trust cooler be??
    Core Size - 520mm x 250mm x 80mm
    Overall Size - 600mm x 380mm x 90mm
    Pipework Size - 2.5 inch inlet/outlet
Tube and fin design, vertical flowing, in and out on same side??

One outlet pipe has a 90deg bend, and one is straight or there abouts??
I think I might have found one.

Thanks quite interesting HKS_TRD reguarding the cams you used, i always thaught it would of made a diffrence

payney8, read ed_jza80 link that he posted that will give you a bit of infomation reguarding the 7m Machining of the block etc

List of mods to do while its out, id just get a full from the turbo back 3inch exaust, cold air intake, intercooler upgrade really, but thoses arnt really on the motor

Port wise the 7m is pretty good unless ur aiming for big power so i wouldnt bother paying somebody to port them out

Just make sure you do it once and do it right the story of the 7m or ul just be doing it again!

Yep that looks like my intercooler. to fit that you have to remove the power steering lines that go over the stock intercooler and re-route them. IIRC you have to trim a little metal from the metal piece that the power steering lines orginally bolted to for the cooler to bolt up, and you have to use the forward most hole to mount it to or it sits on the wrong angle and the splash tray wont fit under the car

    wiseco7mgt:
The core dimensions are mentioned in my above post.

HKS_TRD: Sounds like a win to me, might have to chase it up.
How is it in terms of pressure drop??

Has anyone taken a good look at the sump design and is it well designed, or would getting it modded with more baffles / trapdoors / windage trays etc be a good idea??
The said engine will see track day use>

You guys where asking about inlet manifolds.

Here are some pics of what we did to mine.

1 reason was to help it fit in the bay and the other was to shorten the inlet track
