My AW11 doesn't even have an ABV. The supercharger free spins when not engaged. It has done so since before I bought it (about 6 months). The idle is a little rough but this may be caused by a leak in the system somewhere.

I have heared of many boosted 1G engines having particularly poor fuel economy. As mentioned earlier I would suggest that you check the thermostat and airflow meter. Many people feel the need (for some reason) to modify the AFM with no real regard for what is actually going on in the engine. If the engine is basically stock, the stock settings should be fine.

Everything is basically stock so i am looking for something broken rather than a dodgey mod.

I am thinkin of putting an LED in the VSV circuit & mounting it in the cockpit just to see exactly when the ABV does open & close.

I think i may be doomed to suck juice for as long as i have this car.

I was thinking back to when we owned our MKII Sc and the fuel economy we got was about the same as yours. I really think that is about the best you will get. You will soon know if you have a leak by checking boost. If you are getting 9-10 psi then the valve isn't leaking. If you are still unsure then simply put the tube from the engine manifold directly to the valve.
