probably going to get caned for this but I'm not saying do it but i do and it works...

OK I'm a baker not an enginear but since i changed my timing belt the head was really bad with sludge so i was told to change my oil with an "Engine Flush"
so went down to scab mart (k-mart) (because its cheaper)

and was getting Nulon Engine Flush as thats what i always used. then
i ran into a family friend (who was an automotive enginear or some
enginear (he used to make motors out of a big piece of metal)

and he ask what i was up to and told him that there was a lot of
s##t in my motor and he looked at the Nulon, smiled and shook his
head and said don't bother with that stuff he said two words mineral
turpintine. I thought (that cant be good)

but he's been doing this to his car with every oil change for 35 years (an old Bedford)
and when he had to get the sump seal replaced recently the
mechanic couldn't believe that the sump is still the original, it's in that
    good of condition.

but the mineral turpintine is no were near as lube as oil..
Brian the family friend says that there so much oil (sludge) left in the motor that its ok

As with everything do it at your own risk and be careful, I've done it
to my car 3-4 times and my wifes and both have been heaps better
off and the oil stays cleaner much longer.

you won't believe the shit/sludge that comes out.
Ive actually never ran it longer than 2 mins.
Time is priceless yet it costs us nothing.
You can do anything you want with it but you can't own it.
You can spend it but you can't keep it.
And once you've lost it, there is no getting it back, it's just gone."

Proper flushing oil is thicker than diesel.

that's because mini share the same oil through the g'box and engine, so potentially a much larger volume of crap to clean out, and places for things to go wrong

i've heard the for's and against's but i spoke to the family mechanic who said don't flush with straight disel for all the above reasons, mix some disel in with some supercheap oil, run that for a few mins, and you'll lessen all the problems significantly... but only do that if your engine is pretty bad, otherwise, just run supercheap oil for a week, change it with some more each weekend until the oil coming out is as clean as what went in... and just take it easy while your doing this. this is exactly what i did with mine and what i'd recommend

The only issue that I have with turps is that it thins engines enamel, so the paint on the bottom of your sump might go through the rest of the engine.
I would thing that if your thinking of using diesol, definately put it in with oil rather than alone.
Don't listen to me too much, my 18RC was very clogged up, to the point of having a bad clunk and rattle in the bottom end when it ran thte first time I started it after buying the car from a wrecker.
How did I fix it? Took it for a full throttle drive at about 5500RPM around the block to see if it would blow up and changed the oil afterwards.
Result: no more clunk and it ran really smooth, I guess that extra oil pressure just blew the blockages through!

It does lose oil pressure to the head under 3000RPM on hot days though. I think it was fucked before I got the car.

I don't recommend high revs for removing blockages unless you want to kill the engine. I did want to.

My personal preference would be: if the engine is out fo the car, strip the bottom end, acid bath and then rebuild it.
