    ok thanks mate,

Can the guts outta the electronic dizzy be put into the 18r dizzy without removing the dizzy?,

Is removing the dizzy straight forward??

    thanks

You thought of using a Jaycar/Silicon-Chip HEI kit?

You can use that with the standard points in the dizzy.
Difference is youll get a much stronger spark and the points will never wear out, so no more tuning needed.

While the Jaycar kit does reduce the amount of current going through the points (and thus reducing its wear) the rubbing block on the points will still wear on the lobes. So tuning will still be required to account for that. Although it obviously won't have to be done as often.

    ok,

so is it only the 22RE dizzy internals that fit in the 18r dizzy, that can be run by the 21r Coil and igniter...or will the 21r dizzy internals fit aswell?

Just saves me less hassle knowing there is a complete RA60 at the wreckers with a 21r

    thanks

Edit, yeah man some pics would be cool, thanks!

i think the guts of the 21r dizzy are similar, if not identical. Both have vacuum advance...

21R, 22R and 22RE are identical as far as the ignition is concerned. The guts are really easy to swap over, spend 10 mins pulling the dizzy apart and you will see what I mean. Some 18R dizzies wont work with the 2xR innards because the shape of where the vacuum diaphragm mounts to the advance plate is different. Make sure you have a capable 18R dizzy, otherwise you will need to get another 18R dizzy which is suitable from a wrecker. Sorry I dont have pics, but I have done this a number of times. PM me if you want to send the 2 dizzies to me and I can swap the guts over quick enough.

The coil and igniter will look very similar to the 18RGUE one pictured (black barrel coil and silver ignitor on a common mounting bracket), except that the 2xR items dont have the ballast resistor. You will not be able to use your points coil with this setup as it will overheat.
