Hello all forum goers ( LOL )

need a bit of help as to how i can manualy control the TEMS shocks in my 3sgte mounted celica gtr. as the car did not come with the TEMS factory half the sensors req. for operation are not installed and the fact that i have got a link plus gen 2 ecu installed also dosnt do any favors lol so if some smart bugger out there knows the ins and out of how to make a controler for these shocks i will be so greatful i havemanaged to make then stiffer ( just applyed power to the correct two wires some how lol ) but would like fuller push button control. even if i could just have the pinouts it would be so much help. THANKS for your time. Brendon NZ

remove the motors and wind the shocks by hand(with a tool)... one way of doing it.

Electronic controllers are available commercially for adjusting the shocks. Talk to a good suspension shop/speed shop in your area. Other than that pick up a copy of ZOOM, there are a few suppliers advertising in the mag. Third option, GOOGLE "suspension controllers".

    cheers Chuck.

making a simple controller shouldnt be too hard.

you'd need to know what the controllers change voltage? amps? resistance?

then make a little doovy to control this.

could even rig it in a way where each corner would be individually controlable via its own dial.

what does TEMS control? just rebound ?

    just fit performance shocks.
TEMS isnt really that flash, just adjusts from too soft to normal.

Depends what the shock came out of as to how it's made. Some have motors on top, and then afaik it also depends on what setup, and some have solenoids inside the valve body inside the shock (JZS147 Aristo).

The motor setup I've taken apart (I think out of a GA70 Supra) had a solenoid and a conventional DC motor.
From memory the solenoid controlled two intermediate positions. The motor could spin two ways, and depending on the solenoid operation it would stop at different positions (If the solenoid was activated it would stop at 1/3rd of the travel, giving 4 positions depending on which side it started from).

I don't know if the components were always energised, or if they were only energised during movement then the mechanical efficiency (or lack thereof) kept everything in the one position until the next time it's energised. These motors, from memory, are able to be non-destructively disassembled.

The JZS147 shocks has two solenoids, one of which I'm guessing is a power solenoid (it has a slug inside that moved against a spring to change some oil flow parameter) and probably a feedback solenoid. This would give linear control over the range of adjustment but I have no idea how the feedback soleonoid ties into all of this. These cannot be disassembled without cutting them up.

Most (if not all) TEMS setups have a steering sensor - I guess it's to allow dynamic shock adjustment on turns.

BTW, If you need to ask how to make this controller, I'll respectfully suggest this project is not for you... (and no, I haven't made one)

The switches in the cabin are not always a relfection of what the hardware can do.
I am aware of at least one setup where the hardest setting is not available from the switches in the cabin - the TEMS computer can adjust it to that when required.
