    Default Aftermarket Temp Sender Location

I'm installing an aftermarket temp guage in my 1JZ-GTE, was thinking of using one of those adapters that you add into the rad. hose, just wondering which hose? upper or lower? how good an indication of coolant temp would this give? anyone else install a aftermarket guage but still wish to maintain the factory guage? ideas please

    Cheers

upper would be better as its come straight from the head, not the radiator, so it will give a better indication of the temps

Highest water temp is at outlet from the head [carrying the heat load to the radiator]. as STR8_2.8 said this is in the top hose between the thermostat housing and the radiator.

The top hose is the best place. Is it a screw in type sensor ??

I run my EMS sensor in the block on my car and it works quite well. The read out is digital so you can see the temp rise 1 deg at a time . This is particularly handy on the dyno.

I still also use the factory temp gauge in the head which is connected to the factory gauge in the dash.

If you can i would recommend using both gauges (factory and aftermarket) as it can be very handy esp if the sensors are located in different spots on the motor .

This will give you a good idea of how the heat is being conducted

remember that the sensor body (unless it is a two wire) needs to be earthed thru the body of the sensor...

where it goes depends on what temp you want to read....
before the thermostat? after the thermostat? after the radiator?

i would vote before the thermostat, so that you can see when it opens, and when it closes...
    failing that, top hose...

I got mine off Ebay, $32 delivered, and it also comes with a small bolt whoch screws into the body of the adapter to mount an earth wire to, 1st one i have seen with this.

This is the store i got mine from
    http://stores.ebay.com.au/Car-Access...QQftidZ2QQtZkm

Ok so the top hose is the best location, where i had originally planned.
    Thanks once again guys.

    Awesome, thanks heaps...
Quick couple of questions on them.

    1. The 40/42mm - is that Inside or Outside Diameter of the tube
    2. Do they come pre-drilled and tapped for the probe - if so, what size thread/pitch etc
    3. what is the quality like ? - appear robust enough and not cheaply made etc ??

    Cheers

Yes the come pre drilled 1/8npt the standard for most oil and water senders,
40/42 is the od of the adapter, same as ID os hose,
quality seems to me to be exellent, comparable to the greddy ones
