Anyway I installed the tailshaft today, I had to slightly elongate the holes in the front flange but apart from that everything fits nicely. Unfortunately no driving yet as I'm missing the nuts for the V160 flange, and being an obscure 11mm thread I can't pick up new ones just anywhere, they'll probably have to be ordered from Toyota. Anyway I'll take care of that during the week, and in the meantime I'll make sure everything else is ready for the first drive of a MA61 with 2JZ and 6-speed!
Try the bolt king in capalaba, they seem to be able to get just about any type of bolt or nut.

your average landcruiser from the 90's had these 11mm fine thresd nuts to hold the rear tailshaft in. you may well get lucky at toyota with them and their little washers. that or a 4x4 wrecker, you may well find them on the ground, and slip them in your pocket.
so much stuff. so little time.

Or you could just get them from Rz until your new ones come in

Yes that's the plan, Rz's nuts will be arriving tomorrow and if I can get sufficiently motivated to get under the car in this weather I will hopefully be going for a drive later in the week.

    IT LIVES!!!

I finally got the tailshaft properly bolted in today, and for the first time in 6 months I dropped the car off the chassis stands and went for a test drive around the block. Much to my surprise everything worked perfectly: the transmission appears to be in reasonable shape, the butchered shifter bracket still allows me to select all 6 gears, the clutch is smooth and progressive and actually works, and the tailshaft doesn't wobble or vibrate or make bad noises. And best of all, nothing caught fire!

Apparently I did a bad job of hooking up the intercooler hoses because one of them popped off as soon as the turbos came on boost, so there was no fast driving involved - but there was driving and that's the main thing! There was also a metric arseload of smoke on startup so I'm thinking the turbos need to come off soon - surely that much smoke couldn't just be from valve stem seals? Anyway I just happen to have this GT35R lying around so it's time to get busy.

I'll get some pics and stuff on the weekend.

I took it for a proper drive last night, Salisbury to Ferny Grove and back which is approx 60km. Drove without a hitch once I got used to shifting a manual box again! I had to keep reminding myself there was an extra gear too, that's going to take a bit of getting used to.

There's still a massive boost leak somewhere (never saw more than 3psi and I could hear it whistling) so I still haven't had a chance to test the limits of the clutch... I'm thinking it's my munted intercooler so that won't be a quick fix. But none of this is of great concern, the point is the car drives and the drivetrain appears to be reliable, so now I can move on to the next project: 700hp in a MA61 Supra!

Anyone know where I can pick up a 2JZ-GE long motor cheap?

Mos is just defending himself from his protracted IS400 project (says me, when it's nearly a year to the day since I blew the 2nd turbo on my supra)
