pfft get used to the lack of torque mate
sorry i get this also in my car, not sure how close to the effect you're experiencing, but i always figured it was lack of torque and didnt think any more of it
Well since I have fixed my fuel problem and unblocked my return line the flat spot is gone, and my fuel consumption is much better, but now when the car is cold as in just started and until it is nearly completely warmed up it just doesn't want to move anywhere, I have to rev it really hard to get up the raise in my driveway and just taking off on a flat I need to rev it higher and it is just slow to get up!
And also even when it is warmed up it still feels really sluggish down low.
What sort of things should I be looking at to fix this problem?
The engine is just a stock 4AGE bigport Bluetop, rebuilt a little while ago and a compression test gave me 170 as the highest result and 160 as the lowest, the HG isnt blown. Is there anything else I should test/check? Can it be something as simple as timing, or the TPS? I had the TPS adjusted about 1 year ago when the engine went into my car so I wouldn't think it would have moved?
I think there is an exhaust leak somewhere could that be causing it somehow?
UPDATE:
well I finally had a few spare minutes, so I changed my fuel filter and it hasnt made a difference.
And I have noticed when it is cold if I just punch the accelerator it doesn't want to rev, and it wont, it will just go crap and sound like it wants to die. but if I slowly press the accelerator then the revs climb. This is all while it is in neutral, and there is no load on the engine. Is this simply a timing issue?it is really pissing me off!...A few weeks ago my battery came loose, and it was resting against my cam wheel could that have somehow made it slip around and have messed up my cam timing causing this problem?(the cam cover is off cause I had to change my waterpump.)
Thanks heaps in advance for any info and help!
Cheers.

Could be that your TVIS system isn't activated. That would explain the low down lagginess. Does it feel off in the higher rev range too?
Eddie.
4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun
TVIS is workin, I can feel it kick in where it should!
I wouldnt have a problem with it, its just that it wasn't this bad when the engine was being flooded with petrol cause the return line was blocked!
But now that I have the return line flowing freely, and I now have the front half of the 4AC water pump for the clutch fan it just has crap all power at low revs when cold I am just finidng it strange!
Mmmmmm........Try replacing your fuel filter.
advance your timing.
we finished my mates 4age > ke70 conversion today, the car ran like a dog down low, but, as soon as TVIS kicked in, it flew, the timing was advanced, and its a different car to drive, alot more pokey/torquey/i hate that car because ive lost alot of blood putting the engine in.

the battery issue might have caused a jump of the belt a tooth or two or stripped them
reset it to tdc and redo ALL the timing
sucky, but sounds likely if something jammed in the wheels

whitchy, have you checked your dizzy cap and rotor button just in case? i had a similar problem as your car once and it ended up that the worn rotor button wasnt providing enough spark.
undo your cold start injector and see if that is getting enough fuel, and take out a spark plug and check your spark distance. it should be able to jump abt 2cm.
these are things i did for the camry, so i'm assuming it may be similar with 4age's.
Well I just advanced my timing by rotating the dizzy, and it seems to have made it a million times better! I just have to wait for the car to cool down and see if it has made a difference to the problems when it is cold!
If not then I will check my dizzy cap and rotor button, altho I bought a brand new dizzy cap when I put the engine in about a year ago, so it shouldn't be farked yet? And my plugs are only 6 months old, if even!
Thanks for all the help and advice so far!
Cheers.

Oh yeah, I checked if the timing belt had slipped at all, and it is all good. I turned the crank to TDC and the marks on the cam wheels were both in the right spots! So I am thinking if moving the dizzy has fixed it, that the battery may have hit the dizzy hard enough or rested on it for long enough to move it just a little bit and has messed up my timing?
Thanks again!
