Semi Slick tyres

Just wondering what peoples experiences have been with these as compared to a good street tyre? as an example looking at falken azenis, theres the street version vs the semi slick.

I'm just looking into this as i'll be partaking in a few track days this year and wondering whether i should fork out the money for a set of these. I'm aware that they aren't the cheapest but i'm not looking at keeping them on all the time as i've heard that with just city driving you'll be pushing to get decent life out of them due to the softer compound.

Any advice would be much appreciated

mate of mine runs azeni rt615 (the new ones) on his NA MX5
he rekons they are ust phenomenal

i run toyo trampio 08R rain slicks on mine (fronts only) and while they wear like demons they stick just as well!

I have a set of toyo r888's on my corolla and they are quite long wearing. They have a 5mm tread depth unlike the ra1 toyos that seem to be a more popular choice, and have a 6.4mm depth, but are longer wearing. I think they are cheaper than the azenis also. They also stick like shit to a blanket.

Ring the Tyre power in reservoir VIC, and ask to talk to the performance tyre division. This is where all the semi race/street and outright race toyo tyres are distributed from. The guy there is very knowledgable.

I run Yokohama AO32R's on my corolla, i reckon they are pretty good but i havnt driven on any other R spec tyre, apparently the Falken GRB's i think they where are about 1.5-2 sec lap faster on most cars at most tracks.

Yep they sure are but IP is likely to move to the A048 this year assuming Yokohama wins the tire tender. Apparantly in testing the 48's are about 1sec a lap quicker. If you decide on the Yokos, go direct to the distributor in your state as some tire shops are adding on 25%+ to what you can pay from people like Gordon Leven (in NSW).

I know that even under full race conditions we can get several hundred km's out of a set as long as you treat them nice the first few heat cycles.

Yeah, the first few heat cycles are critical. But the 32Rs are awesome tyres. And the price might come down a bit if IPR goes to 48s.

I used the Falken RSV-04 on my GTZ Levin , These are a DOT rated R Compound semi slick although not that hard wearing when used on the street maybe a few thousand Kms

The pricing i got from North Terrace Tyres was only about $15-20 more per tyre than the 32s.

EDIT: Just ran NTT and they quoted me $204 for the 32Rs and $225 for the 48s, thats in 195/60/14s.

The reciept from my last 32Rs from Melbourne indicates that i got them for $202.50 each, so not much of a difference at all.

Talking to Gordon Leven at the last round last year, he was saying about $10-$20 a tyre dearer (depending on size) but they didn't put the 032R up over the course of its life. We're paying $205 for a 195/60R14 and the club gets a bit of a cut
