Default Cost of fixing valve seats

I am almost afraid to ask this but I have a blacktop 20v head that has some rough looking seats that I think would need another cut. Does anyone know what sort of costs are charged for something like this.

Also a bit of a side note do silvertops have shorter valves or thicker shims?

getting your valves re-seated isnt too expensive, but being that you have 20 valves the cost will be higher than what i paid for my 8 valve 18RG

what did it cost you witzl? and what did u have done?

I would think that getting the shims done on an 18rg would be a hell of alot easier than a 20v and the tiny spacers they have

I paid about $200 to get a spare smallport head cleaned up, all valves cut in a 3 way job, head faced, and manifold faces done. Also they checked bearing clearances with the new cams for nix.

That was Crankies up in Mitcham.

any decent machine shop will beable to sort you out for about what takai mentioned.

Dont forget that you will need to get the head machined also to refit it.

If theyre not drastically bad you could always go oldschool and use the paste and suction cap on a stick way of doing them. Worked on my 4age.

i got my 1ggte head done, was 240 before tax to get them all machined
so 10 bucks each sounds about right
if i was you pay the extra and get them to set the valve clearances for you aswell. as i didnt and spent far to long and ended up having to get my shims machined and saved about 50 bucks really worth the 2-3hundred they want for taking the tips off the valve stem rather than changing shims

They use a surface grinder which has a strong magnetic table. One the shims are placed on the table they won't move. The grinding wheel takes off only very small amounts of metal per pass.

thats what they use if you have to get your shims redone
but the way engine shops do it these days, so i was told, is that they trim a little off the tip of the valve stem, leaving the case hardened shims well alone.
if your shims are only 5mm wide you could use an angle grinder, and have no issues
i tried this with my 1g ones which are about the size of a 15c peice and it didnt turn out so good
