FWIW - I ran lead replacement lube and premium unleaded fuel in my 18R for the first six months after it was back on the road after a rebuild. That was when I thought i'd never do a conversion and have to look after the engine. After having to adjust the valves countlessly as they were pulling through the seats slightly (despite the lube) and burning out a valve (think it was the dodgy tuning of the weber combined with exhuast mani leak) I just gave up and started running the cheapest fuel I can get and no LR lube. The car has been running nearly 2 years with no adverse affects whatsoever. I have no idea where my timing is set... If i hear it pinging i back it off a degree until next time I tune it![]()

Hi again
Thanks for all ur answers, i guess i will just have a looksee and see if its worth the effort, kinda sounds like its a waste of time.
Turboing the 18R, hmm that sounds intresting, what needs to be done, and can it be done in a fairly cheap way? not intrested in throwing a lot of money at this engine, but a cheap turbo upgrade could be somethin.
What kinda turbo, manifoilds etc would i need to use?

it's all custom (intake & zorst) ... personally, i woldn't bother if i had the chance again. Has proven to be very costly and time consuming (for me anyway),Originally Posted by MarkIIRx12
Seeing as you're US based - i'd suggest a 22RE and find a turbo manifold (or make one). They're popular over you're way so parts and experience should be easy. You'd still have the issue of an ECU to run the whole show.
