So I presume you hadn't cut the strut down to cover the full difference in the length of the insert then?

    thats not what i meant.
even when you cut down the tube the insert is still spaced, ive seen it mentioned a couple of times in this thread, but never read why.
the struts in my 23 (which i didnt make) have a 15mm spacer under them (which is about 20mm in diameter and solid) and i cant see why. why not just cut another 15mm out of the tube?
like i say, the only reason i can see is because the shape of the bottom of the insert is going to fowl on the bottom of the inside of the strut tube.
    thoughts??

I know where Sheepers is coming from.. The only reason for the spacer was to get the rebound/bound ratio correct. But it's not going to be one size fits all.

I run a 20mm spacer which gave the ratio I need for the height of the car.

Takai, but but but, why would you not shorten the strut tube? Are you not already cutting the section out that mounted the spring perch? Does that make the strut tube too short and lower the car too much, or does the spacer ensure the SW20 shock is operating in its designed range?

Damn slow computer, these questions were posted before the above answers were put forward.

    cheers Chuck.

As TurboRA28 says its to get a desired rebound/bound ratio. Its not one size fits all. On the Supra with the MX83 struts i dont use any spacers at all (with SW20 shocks), as the rebound/bound ratio is just spot on.

On the AE86 i use some 20mm spacers because the HTS102s are so bloody short in the body that without it i cant get the ratio right, and if i cut down the tube so much i cant get it back to 100mm ride height (min for IPRA).

I re-read the 1st page on this guide but haven't yet read the 46 pages and maybe someone can answer my query before I do that.

Does anyone know the changes in camber and track I will get when using the XT130 corona strut on my ta22? and do you use the ta22 control arms on the corona arms? I already have both these struts and the hubs that came with them.

I am either going to use the pug/hilux caliper or see if I can get an s13 silvia caliper bracket made up to either fit the ta22 strut or the corona strut.

I also read from Rod's Unicorn post that the Camry part no. for the master cylinder upgrade is: Toyota Part Number - 47201-06230, if you want to update the 1st page.

    Cheers, Pete

Pete, roughly none according to the comparison between my early TA22 struts and XT130 gear. Shoudlnt change in camber or track if you are still using the stock LCAs.

takai, I thought I gained about 25mm in front track, simply by installing the XT130 struts, seem to remember the engineers requireing different wheel offset to compensate. Was a very long time ago that I first did this conversion, before Toymods existed!.

    cheers Chuck.

If you install the XT130 LCAs then you gain that in track, but from my measurements the hub to steering arm points are the same.

Great, thanks guys. Much appreciated! Now to do some research on whether to use the ta22 struts and hubs or the XT130. I know the XT's are bigger and stronger but also heavier and the ta22 ones were engineered for this car so they should be able to handle anything you throw at them.

    Poida

Just to clarify I gained 25mm with xt130 struts on my TA23. Just a comment about the hubs. Agree that they are engineered for a TA22 and should be great if nothing else is changed, including driving it as a hairdressers car. But if you are looking at upgrading the the performance of the car and fitting something bigger than 155 tyres on 4.5 inch rims ( which will be both heavier and stickier) and using some that new found performance and cornering ability, you might consider that you have moved outside of the engineering boundaries Mr Toyota had in mind for the TA22 when they were designed in the 1960s. I know that I feel far more comfortable using stuff engineered for a 10 year younger vehicle and some 300 kg heavier.

    Cheers Craig

This is kind of off topic but does anyone know why the RT132/XT130 hubs are different? From what I've read these are the same series Corona with the main difference being the 132 is the liftback, it seems odd that the hubs are different...

I managed to pick up a complete set of mx62 struts when all i wanted were the brakes for this mod. Is there a control arm known to fit the bolt spacing for the 62 strut? or is it too much messing around?

    Wrong brake upgrade thread...

Also "control arm" got me on the completely wrong track, as I thought you were thinking on the Lower Control Arm (LCA), but what I think you actually mean is Steering Arm. Control arms don't have "bolt spacing" in this case.

You'd have to go to a wreckers and check over many models, but I don't know what the bolt spacing of the MX62 Steering Arm is so I cannot help you there.

RA60 arms are the ones you require.
