Can you describe exactly what the engine does? What it's issues are?
It's hard to say. At the moment I can't get it out of the driveway, the delortos aren't tuned at all. I couldn't get any information on the car they were tuned for, just put them on and took them to the dyno guy.

But earlier this year with the Solexs on it ran alright. I bought a new fuel tank because of suspicions of an air leak at the top of the old one. We've gone over everything we think could be the culprit... although there's always a chance of missing something.

As for the rebuild not being correct, I can't fairly judge the likelyhood. My Dad has heaps of experience with similar engines of the same era, but not really Toyotas. I have a lot of respect for his knowledge and ability, he's very strict with himself about doing things properly and professionally. On the flip side, he's only human.

Once there's tuned carbs on the rg I'll know for sure. I'm really hoping the problem IS the carbs, otherwise I'm stumped. Obviously I will have to find somebody with more 18rg experience willing to help me find the problem and solve it.

We had a major blow out in one of the carbys, the jet housing. frank said they gave him heaps of greif, and when he made up a new gasket somehow pressure blew the whole housing apart
Is this a turbo/super charged blow thru setup thats pressurized it? They are VERY difficult to do well with a carb that usually relies on atmo. pressure & float level to work properly. I haven't seen any word
about it not being NA, but I don't know what an 18RG is.

All the 'rebuilding', what ever that means, scares me!
I think the main thing is that it was running OK for a week, and NOTHING can happen to a carb in a week except dirt holding the needle& seat open, causing flooding, or a float leaks & fills up. Possibly dirt on the accelerator pump check valve, and that's about it.

You've got an other problem/s to figure out, and taking them apart, time after time, or replacing them, expecting something different, isn't going to change anything.

    Tiff,

Get your hands on the 18R "green book" - the toyota service manual that covers the 18R-G as well as the 18R.

Let me know how you go with the new carbs, and drop me a line if you still have issues so i can come and see what you have possibly wanged.

    Hi,

I PM'd Tiff to offer her a lend of my green book but she already has one.

Don't forget the green books are part of a series, there's one for the engine, another for the chassis and a third one for the body. Between these 3 books you got the entire car covered - from gearbox to engine, diff to interior, electrical to body panels, suspension to steering... the whole enchalada.

I really think there are Four books cause I have a red one that covers all the pollution gear for the 18r and 18rc for Australia and sweeden..
All the sensors , hose layout, airpump, egr and all the stuff we usually throw away.
So do I have 1 more than everybody else?
    Cheers

    Hi,

When I was saying three books I was referring to the three "green" books. There is the thin red-crimson coloured book for that is an addition to the series that describes the Californian emmission requirements.

My red book describes the emission details for Australia and Sweeden 18r and 18rc not Californian. It is a little thinner than the green engine manual however.
    Cheers
