Default WOLF 3D/V4 guru wanted (one small hint needed)

I have mine all installed and running on my K series turbo setup, but am having trouble connecting to my PC to tune it realtime.

    PC cant see ECU etc.

    Any hints would be great.

    I had more luck setting my laptop to use the following port settings;

    9600 baud
    8 data bits
    No parity (N)
    1 stop bit

rather than the 38400 baud that the Wolf manual specifies.

The software automatically connects. You have to have the ignition on before the ECU will connect to the PC. The engine doesn't have to be started though.

Also make sure you are using the right Com port if your laptop/PC has 2 of them.

NAh it doesn't have com ports it only has USB ports.

So if the power light is on the ECU it should recognise it ey.

?? My Wolf 3D V4 had a serial cable, not a USB cable.

Even the new Wolf 3D V5 has serial

yeah most likely. you'll need to find a way for the USB adaptor to interface with the Wolf software which is looking for a serial port, not USB.

Try this (from the Wolf support page)

The most common problem people have when they first install their USB to Serial Adapter is that they need to match the COM Port Assigned to the adapter to the Wolf PC Software. If the COM Ports are not identical, there will be no communications between the PC and the ECU.

To determine the assigned COM Port for the USB to Serial Adapter:

    Click on Start

    Go to Settings

    Go to Control Panel

Double click on System - a dialog box will open

    Click on the Hardware tab

Click on the Device Manager button.

    Ports (COM & LPT).

Select the USB to Serial Adapter that you have just installed.

    Right Click on it.

    Choose Properties.

    Choose the Port Settings tab.

    Click on the Advanced button.

Make sure the COM Port selected is the one you want to allocate the USB to Serial Adapter to.

    Click OK.

    Click OK.

    Close Device Manager.

the driver software for the USB -> serial adapter should allow you to change the COM port that the pc sees the serial port on. You should set it to something that the Wolf application can connect to (this is how i do my old old haltech to my laptop, and it works)

i had a similar problem with using a usb-serial adapter but i just ahd to use a different com port an it was all good, make sure you set the same port on the ecu as the laptop, ie set the wolf to com3 for eg and make sure the lap top is set to use com3 for the adapter etc

make sure you use the software that comes with the adaptor cable too

I connected it to the work laptop that has a serial port and bingo it works fine.

Yeah some of the USB/Serial adapters are incompatible with the Wolf, you can buy one that works from the Wolf online store, but it is kinda exxy for what it is.
