ok... so basically any locker is going to be aids for track days, but good for drags.
Whereas a torsen will be good for both?

Ok I should update.... i had another chat to craft diffs this morning.

$450 to swap the mounts and straighten the housing.
    $150/side to restud to 4x114.3
    $80/side for bearings
    $990 for trutrac centre
    = $1900

    That is painful.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

Yeah, torsen or friction is what you want for an all purpose diff.

Motorkhana favors the friction type a bit, since torsens may still occasionally spin the inner wheel if you unload it almost completely around tight hairpins. Friction type LSDs have more preload to work around that. The tradeoff is clutches that wear out.

$1900 may be painful but that would be doing it right the first time - cheaper in the long run.

im looking at buying the trutrac from the USA directly now - exchange rate is back above 0.80, so its going to hurt a LOT less than $990 from the local guys!

TT 912A588 is the part number for the rear trutrac unit. The front one is TT 912A585. Look for the right one but both will work.

hhhhmmmm now i am also thinking of doing the diff now.... maybe not the centre as the celica will remain stock motor for some time, but the rest... and since i know the exact wheels i want, then converting to 4x114.3 is no issue for me...

time to look for a diff....

I have a Volvo diff already converted for our Celica's including the stud pattern change to 4x114.3
I am currently converting a RN20 Hilux diff to use because I have gone to 5x114.3 with my new wheels
Once this is done the Volvo will be up for sale ready to bolt in. You will only need to look at the handbrake cables and adapting them to fit. I do have someone interested already, but if it falls thru, I will let you guys know.

I just contacted Drive Train Specialists in Michigan, and its US$450 for the trutrac centre to suit the Volvo Dana 30 rear end, with gear ratios from 3.73:1 and numerically higher (shorter ratio).

Fedex through my work is AU$195... so thats AU$760 landed on a 0.80 exchange rate.

Im now looking into costs for consolidated air freight for multiple units, and might consider a group buy, if i can find the Trutrac part numbers for Toyota F series and G series centres.

I'll check out my guy in the US Karl
For G series, I can get Detoit True Trac centres for $490 AU, Detroit Lockers for $610 AU and he cando full spools also.
Freight is $130 AU on each centre.

I would imagine the Dana 30 centres would be the same price as the G series, but I will enquire. So for a Detroit True Trac you'd be looking at $620 AU landed and for a Detroit Locker $750 landed

thanks Jack.... the prices im looking at for Toyota G series are similar to yours (US$389). The Dana 30 centres are a bit more expensive at US$450. Check with your guy as well just to make sure

If i get a few units together i can probably get freight below AU$100 per centre shipped by AIR thanks to the awesome import freight rates we have at work (importing 10 containers a week gets you phenominal rates).

    Just some food for thought

No worries Karl, I'll go with you then mate once. I'll still confirm that the Dana 30's are at that price with my contact.
The centres you are enquiring about, are they Detroit branded? If not, what brand are they?

We have ourself a group buy then
Run it by the mods Karl and see if there is any interest outside this thread.
The more centres we can get, the better price it will be. Get them all delivered to you and leave it up to the buyers to pick them up or sort couriers to grab them.
