stidnam how much were you looking for the axels and rotors? are they for the beefier 1031 diff or they can be interchanged between them?

Yes they came out of the beefier 1031 but I didn't think there was any difference.

When did you need them by? I can't sell them until I get the new ones made up, new rotors and some 5 stud wheels.

Send me a PM about the above. I'll have a think about price as I need to add up what the new bearings, rotors, studs etc are going to cost me.

Well, having got hold of a Volvo 740 axle over here (240 axles are way too rare now in the UK, just not available without buying the whole car [which I haven't ruled out]) it's far too wide, and I'm not sure how cost effective it will be to narrow it sufficiently. I measured 1520mm.

Options in the UK seem to be really limited compared to you guys; the weather here destroys the old cars pretty quickly so it's back to square one. Any other options from cars that might be over here as well as in Aus?

to be honest mate - if you have to shorten the diff, there are probably better options out there....

the other common ones are hilux diffs (g series toyota) there are 2 models used, one is 1370mm wide (same as stock) the other 1420 i think, which is still useable depepnding on wheel choice etc.
and F series toyota diffs.... not sure what these were in as they never floated my boat as an option.... but they are much better than the stock ones...

Other than that - go down the wreckers with a tape measure - thats how i came up with the volvo diff.
Keep in mind the aftermarket support for centres (if that is an issue for you) as well as the factory lsd options... Who knows you may came up with the next must do conversion.... GOOD LUCK WITH IT

    Cheers

Hey Stew, thanks for the reply. I might end up doing something genuinely original - if only due to a lack of options.

Finally got myself an axle from a 240...

Narrower and a much better fit, but this axle needs some tidying up, and it has a 3.9 ratio in.... I want 3.73 so that's the next hunt. Not sure where I'll find one, to be honest!

    Go ebay!

I got my LSD center from Rons Machining Service on ebay(USA). From Memory he had all sorts of bits for these diffs, might find what you're after there.

    Cheers,

I'm in the UK. Ah. That said, Maybe the postage of just the crownwheel and pinion isn't that horrific..?
