How much did that tank set you back? I was having a look at your page earlier today for ideas...

I am trying to get the car back on the road by the 5th of Sept (before rego runs out) so time isn't on my side unfortunately!

Thanks for the idea Simon, I'll have a look on ebay, etc for a tank from the states.

    Cheers,
    Al

I haven't had a chance to check all of this thread but on my 23 I have the pump mounted as low as possible on the underside of the car. I only get surge when it is less than 1/8 left in the tank. I was toying with the idea of a small tank in line but really just a reservoir type set up. Is this a waste of time? Would a litre or so be enough?
Yes the old Celica's are great cars thanks..

I'd say a litre would suffice, though it depends on what you're applications for the car is; daily/street use, track car etc?

For most, 1 litre would be plenty.

Back onto my setup for a second, realistically, if I mounted my pumps in-line without a surge tank, made 100% sure I didn't go under half a tank of fuel, would this be enough to get it running, drive it to an exhaust shop and to get a rego check done? I'm just trying to figure out a temporary solution for the fuel system. I just need to get another year of rego, then I can do back over it and re-do a few things to get it engineered.

Can't remember the cost but it wasn't much. I sent to by Air Frieght about 10 years ago, not sure its so easy anymore. When it arrived it still smelt like fuel...oops..

Not certain of the US model, but I believe it was an RA22 as they had a small fuel pump feeding the mechanical pump?

But it worked well, no mods needed to the tank itself as its a direct fit, just had to make a bracket for the new pump. From memory I bought the plastic pump housing from an Audi which happens to have the same high flow bosch pump, this made things much simpler.

    Cheers,
    Simon

That's pretty much the same set up I have been running in mine for years, will certainly get you through rego and some.

I have that exact setup in mine, two pumps inline. Make sure tank is over half otherwise it runs dry around corners.

Works fine for normal driving. Not good for a long term solution however.

Cheers guys, might have to do the 'quick fix' until I get the rego paper work done, then I won't be so rushed with the surge tank setup!

I'll post pics in here when I've done it!

Are your 2 pumps mounted under the car??

Nah mate, I was much too lazy for that. I just wanted to drive the car so bodged it up as quick as possible

Both fuel pumps mounted inside engine bay onto chassis rail. (Where original fuel hard lines stop).

Note: Make sure the Lift pump has a higher flow rate than the pressure pump.

    My setup below.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT SETUP but will allow you to drive around.

Nice Ghetto Spec setup RA35GT... yes something like this will certainly get you through a roady. I have actually run worse setups without issue when driven mildly. Only problem with RA35GT's setup is that the low pressure filter should be between the tank and the lift pump. The correct order should be:
    1. Fuel tank
    2. Low pressure filter
    3. Low pressure pump
    4. Surge tank if fitted
    5. High pressure pump
    6. High pressure filter
    7. Fuel rail
    8. Injectors
    9. ???
    10. PROFIT!!!

And just to re-iterate RA35GT's advice, make sure the lift pump can out flow the pressure pump if you don't have a surge tank with pressure regulator return feeding back.

Check my RA28 thread for where I mounted my surge tank. It is about 0.7 litres and made in Brisbane. Available on flea-bay for about $60 in square (1ltr) or round.

I actually have a normal paper filter on the inlet of the low pressure pump.

The facet fuel pump itself comes with a metal strainer when new however.
