just made this up 4 my 28, fits up above the exhaust, possibly still run exhaust past it with a little shielding, but should work well, any suggestions on a better lift pump than the FACET (POS) i''ve got at moment?

Looks neat Rosie, but I dont know if that pressure pump will be below the outlet of the surge tank (pressure pump MUST be either force fed or gravity fed, otherwise cavitation is likely)

Also, I think if you have a decent facet pump, they are a tremendous item as they can suck a lot of fuel through them... just gotta rubber mount them to stop the noise.

hey mate cheers, i have rubber on bottom of set up and using rubber mounts to secure, also it is mounted on an angle so that it gravity feeds. Think that the facet pump i have must be stuffed or on way out - sounds like a gnome with a hammer in there.

I know the engineer here in Adelaide that i use wanted all surge tank, pumps & hoses in a sealed box vented under the car. That applied to TA22s & RA28s.
That seems quite illogical considering the boot is sealed pretty much and has all the standard lines in it. Thats like saying the standard setup is unengineerable

    Agreed.
Although there is a much greater chance of problems (ie fuel squirting everywhere) with an EFI setup.

that what i though lee roy,
The bloke doing my engineering has been working with us doing all our dyno work and some small fab jobs for the past few years so he should sign off on it seeing as i will have a alloy firewall/rear seat eliminator and there wont be a source of ignition like the engine bay (hot exaust) and im using WAY overrated pressure lines

My thoughts are since I have a couple of spare RA28 fuel tanks is to carefully cut one open near the sender unit and check inside for the amout of baffles, if need arises add more and reweld the section that was cut out. Then no need for swirlpots and extra pumps.
why modify the car when you can modify the tank and fix the problem?

yeha it wont, but my car has been stripped and has a alloy section inplace instead of a rear seat/parcel shelf
i would call it a firewall
i guess i will have to talk to my engineer, otherwise i will chop the tank in half mod it and rejoin it

Static baffels are not enough, no matter how many you add.
Go around a long enough corner and youll still have surging problems.

A swirl pot pump like those made by VDO or an in-tank surge tank like in the designs above are the only way to truely remove surge problems in-tank.

So therefor all efi cars will need to have swirlpots inside their tanks according to that theory?

I think that this comming week I am going to have to destroy a few different types of EFI fuel tanks to see exactly what sort of anti surge sytems are fitted.
special baffles, swirlpots, and other mysterious items inside tanks LOL

The standard setup in TA22/RA23s does not pass current australian standards, however because it did at the time, if you do not modify it then it is legal. Suicide doors are legal if the car was fitted with them from factory, but aftermarket they are not, and they are not allowed in new cars (with the exception of specially designed ones like the RX8 which meet strict standards)

As for the baffles in modern efi tanks, they wont last around long bends under racing circumstances. The fact that the vehicles are designed to be driven at relatively lower speeds with much less lateral forces, means that they work ok for the standard application.
