I actually did notice a difference from not having a tray, to putting a tray on. Definite drop in temperature.

Likewise, underbonnet tray IS on my list, my damn MZ10 (and my old MA61) both had these removed (ghey) and MX73 ones don't fit.

While my intake temps are 5-10degC above ambient, the motor sits on a comfy 88degC. (should be closer to 85, not sure if rad is slightly blocked, or its the lack of underbonnet tray causing this).
With the intake temps 20degC above ambient, it was sitting on 90-92degC

But when my intake temps were 40degC above ambient (ambient for all above being ~25degC) my coolant temps were climbing to 99degC
Not sure if the above is caused soley by the intake temps, as I did have a slight radiator leak at the time.

And for the record the grille on the Z20 is mucho smaller than the grille on the Z10

Yeah, the 1UZ, and yes, it surprised me too.

I'll be sure to report back once I have ambient intake temps and an underbody tray.
That said I have no idea on the condition of the water pump on the motor.
Everything else in the cooling system is new.

I'm pretty sure my Cressida sat on 85degC while cruising with everything in good order.

Yes, behind the radiator and under the belts.
Goes from the lower radiator support panel to the crossmember, and is the width of the chassis rails.

My cressy sits on around 85-90C when pootling around, and about 95C when going up a long hill on light boost. Radiator is probably rooted.
The think that worries me more is that when I turn the car off and wander back 5 mins later, the temp gauge is sitting on 110C. It goes right back down when I start the car again, so I suspect it is heatsoak (not BHG I hope!). You can even hear a boiling/sizzling sound in the motor somewhere when you turn the car off as the coolant is touching hot metal constantly instead of flowing past it.
