    Default Convert 4A-GZE to 3S-GTE

Hi bros, currently running the 4A GZE engine on my corolla sedan. below are the specs :-

    - E-manage PiggyBack ECU
    - STI VF35 turbo
    - VR4 Front mount Intercooler
    - Evo 8 Fuel Pump
    - Sard Fuel Regulator
    - VR4 450cc Injectors

This engine is now running on 1.2 boost, giving me 298Bhp (On crank). Was told by my mechanic 3S GTE is better. He recommended me to use 3S GTE engine, then change the turbo to Apexi RX6, and then high boost till 1.6 bar, mentioning that the pistons are FORGED. I really have no idea, hope you guys can give me some suggestion cos i feel that this GZE is running out of power!!

3SGTE is better because it has 25% more capacity, but apart from that they're very similar engines. 4AGZEs have forged pistons also, & take a fair amount of boost standard, and a 3SGTE is going to be a shitload harder to install, considering the 4AGZE bolts straight in.

By all means, stick a 3SGTE in it, the extra capacity will be great, but only if you don't mind the extra money & effort it will take to put it in. For that some money & effort you could get more power out of the 4AGZE, they've been known to make over 200kW at the wheels owith just bolt ons.

I got a friend who is also using a GZE engine. But he is on high boost till 1.4bar, microtec 8 ECU. And eventually, one of the piston actually crack. Was wondering maybe GZE is only Semi-forged instead of full forged piston.

i think only the pistons are.. not the rods or crank...

    edit : u're using a turbo eh..means it's not a GZE anymore, it's a GTE...

erm.. with high poerformance figures, i'd really look at 3 things...
    1. quality parts
    2. reputable engine builder
    3. reputable engine tuner

and that's a lot of boost to be giving a 1.6 anyway.. is it street driven?

and yea there are pros and cons with bigger / smaller engine.. but between a 4A-GZE and 3S-GTE.. there's not much space in singpore so pick a car that can accelerate the fastest.. hehehehehe.. don't you guys pay like over 2 bucks a liter for petrol there??

Yup. We are actually paying like 1.7SGD Per litre for Octane98 petrol. And at most time for my GTE, one full tank of petrol can only last 350KM. Damn.. Maybe fuel is too rich. And nowadays my exhaust always backfire. I agree that Singapore have little space , but the only way to have high horsepower is to swap to a higher capacity engine and Bigger turbo.By the way, do GZE have stroker kit?

I ran 1.6Bar through my 4AGTE for quite a while, and the pistons still look in great shape. Also there are various people on here that have stuffed even more boost into stock GZE bottom ends, damage usually (if not always) comes down to poor tuning or fuel systems not capable of supporting the boost.

Definitely go 3SGTE if the cost & difficulty of doing the conversion is not an issue.
