Basic conversion is around the 2.5-3k mark, but remember you'll lose heaps of boot space with the tank etc (although you cna get tanks for some cars to replace the standard fuel tank). I'm interested in any info someone has on performace gas conversions (turbo/SC and hot NA) I know you can make power off it, but how, and how much?
RM.
mrshin and stradlater - two perfect examples of LPG performance. theres another dude here also who's name escapes me running a 3TG on LPG
um, my 2T ran LPG via a GRA throttlebody and aussie B2 mixer with T03 hybrid. i didn't overly do much with it but it ran aok
LPG conversions seem to be about 1800 for the basic setup which is a venturi style draw thru dual fuel setup - these are the ones that give the bad rep and cause backfires, loss of power, shit economy ect.
my mate is doing LPG injection conversions - one of the last he did was a BA falcoon ute which was a V8, it made 153rwkw on petrol and 151rwkw on LPG. no change in fuel economy just a sh1tload cheaper to run. had dual tanks also.
a commodore LPG tank also is a great fit in the boot of a TA22. the brackets come custom made as part of the kits these days so there may not always be a kit to suit but they are easily modified.
my advice - go injected LPG. far better.
*mrshin nods.*
just said on the news johhny howard is givin a rebate of 2000 dollars on cars that wernt factory fitted with lpg and 1000 bucks for cars that you buy from the factory with lpg...

I wonder if this will drive the price of installs up. Does anybody know a good toyota mech in brissy I am in redlands
there is a huge waiting list on LPG at the moment, and with the rebate the cost of instals are surely to go up.
you have to weigh up the pros and cons before you decide to go lpg, youll need to do alot of k's before its worth your while. and like others have mentioned, injected is the way to go but its not as cheap as the generic instals that most people use which are known for poor performance.
I also heard somewhere that teh government have mandated to progressively increase the exercise on LPG over the next few years so it will be getting more expensive also if that is correct. Petrol will no doubt as well but again this could affect distance traveled before you start getting your money back.
Also if you intend to ever go into the country areas think carefully as LPG is not that easy to get off the east coast.
LP Gas 1 I think is one of the first companies to be doing fully injected and programmable LPG conversions. I believe they are in Victoria.
Gavin
the government has put a limit on the excise afaik which is alot lower than petrol.
until 2011 and then its going up 12 cents which is ages away but good to know haha

Its an old trick! make it really cheap so people get it, then jack up the price!
used to be 28cents a litre, i suppose there going ot say it because of the war it had to go up!hahahahahaha
from memory it comes out of the ground in australia and is taken over seas and then bought back or somethng like that! i remmeber reading something about it a couple of years back!
thats what happens with petrol too, australia can produce nearly 100% of the oil it uses but it has to be exported and sold on the world market.
Maybe that's not too bad then, conversions should have paid for themselves by then. I thought I heard somewhere that it was going up progressively from this year or next.
Still won't help my 4.8l GU Patrol when you can't get it much off the coast and the biggest tank I can fit would only give me a range of about 300-350 km's.
Couldn't even make to Bris and back from Gympie on one tank, talk about PITA.
If the government were serious about promoting LPG they would be pumping money into pipelines or some other way to get it around the country cheaply.
Gavin
can someone please point me to the big post that was done on this a month or two ago, i tried doing a search the other day but lpg being a three letter word hated me
also: what is the possibility of obtaining the parts yourself and installing it in the back yard.
Obviously the system would need to be approved, but it would definately bypass the waiting lists.
Ie. is it legal to install lpg yourself and simply have it checked by the RTA for your area?
edit: never mind i found it by looking for everything stradlater had started
