I have been wrong before, and chances are I will be wrong again. Splitting it vertically would show whether or not is double flared (enough for me to see).

I also agree that if the material is too thick to double flare, then it is more likely a single flare.

The most important aspect of the double flare (from my experience) is with the design of the nipple/tube nut to get in far enough to seal, some nipples have the first few threads turned off to be able to achieve this. I recommend tightening the nipple in by hand and seeing if there is any movement in the pipe, if the rattle around like a dick is a sleeve, then it most likely needs to be double flared. The relevance of what is [I]needed[/] does not hinge on the part that you have in front of you.

The relevance is the original question posed by the person at the top of this thread. Does he need single or double flare. Toyota used single, so theres your relevance. And for your satisfaction I have a spare pressure hose off an LX90 here that I will cut up later today.

I am not trying to prove you wrong, I am happy to be wrong, nor am I trying to rub you the wrong way. I even think that my Cressida may have a single flare (I cannot remember though). So please don't cut the flare for my satisfaction, cut it so that we (me and the other internet users) can share the learning.

A wise person once told me "show me someone who has never made a mistake, and I will show you someone who has never made anything."

The original poster of the question notes that he has done some practise flares whereby the material does not appear to be "have as much meat", indicating that he may have a double flare.

I like that saying LX90 is a diesel powered Cresta/Chaser/Mark2 thing, so the loss of the steer hose for one of those in the name of science (?) is no loss at all. At least it'll mean a definitive answer for all of us regarding what toyota do.

I think mrshin has come up with a good idea, which I was also thinking of doing. I thinking alsong the lines of getting some lines from another toyota that has the power steer pump on the drivers side, same as my 1g, and then modifying to suit. Ill see how I go.

This discussion is getting intense, I like it!

There we go. Looking at it, the material is quite thick so I guess double flaring would be difficult to do on it? Maybe double flaring a thinner tube wall like a brake line is needed to prevent splitting when the nut is tightened onto it?

Whale oil beef hooked (say that quickly with an Irish accent).

I actually thought about this yesterday and I realissed that the material that Toyota is currently using (as pictured) is just too thick to double flare. I am not sure that they have always been done this way. [edit] yes there is an echo in here [/edit]

Jase is wrong again ***sighs and resigns oneself back to work***.
