    Default Reputation Usage

So far there have been 2373 reputation instances since the forums opened. Of these over 90% were either positive or neutral.

Of the negative reps that have been given the vast majority of them have been for bad info or bad behaviour in the tech sections of the forum. This is great to see as you guys can use it to help weed out the rubbish yourselves.

Looking at the comments is a bit of a cause of concern for me though. There are too many left with no comment. If you want the rep vote to have it's maximum effect the person needs to know why they got it. If you're happy with a persons posts let them know about it and if you think they deserve negative rep then tell them why.

Basically keep up the good work using the rep system as it helps us all to have a way to measure users contribution to the forum.

    hey admin man/women (norbie?)

is there an option inwhich the admin has to view the reputation before it comes into affect or would that take up to much time?

Can you imagine how much effort that would be, there have been 2300 rep votes since September, thats like 230 a day. Imagine if someone had to sit down and go through every last one of those....

Easy to fix - make the comment field mandatory.

I reckon it's sheer laziness that makes people leave commentless rep. If you make them write something, I think most would take thee seconds to make it something intelligable.

is it possible to have the number of reps in between giving it to the same person lowered?
i dont give out rep that often, given pos rep to people who deserve it and neg reps to people that post utter crap, there is one person that made a post and was told they should edit it unless they want some neg repping, the person has gone into another thread and replied with null 10 char or something along those lines.

    Wilo,

this is why it is important to use the rep system regularly. If someone makes a good post - reward them! The "spread the love" rule of 15 votes before giving to the same person again is very valid in my belief, as it stops the rep system being abused and people's rep growing too fast in comparison to others.

Aye, and certainly those of us who do have rapidly growing reps tend to get the rep from a wide range of people. The 15 votes is a pretty good system.

I'm positive I could whip something up in a matter of minutes. But my last toymods hack took well over 6 months between coding and integration =)

I reckon that is one of the best suggestions to date. Seriously especially with neg rep it helps to leave a comment so the user can actually know what they have done wrong.

Even for positive rep it would be nice to know why.
