Bah how frustrating is it that I keep seeing a good post, clicking rep, and being denied by "you must spread more to other people"
I dont care who the poster is, I'm not trying to inflate their rep artificially. If I like a post, learned something, I want to encourage it.
But it's annoying the hell out of me that I keep getting that message. I dont feel like repping non-insightful posts, but it looks like I may have to. Or simply not give rep at all.

As a side note, the rep system is interesting to say the least. I earned 5 points from a post that took 2 seconds and contained only a useful link, but for other posts that required thought, I've often earned none. Not that it matters to me personally anymore. I've now reached "enough points to not care" status. Just pointing it out because it shouldnt be like that.

    Hi,

In regards to a good post that you can't rep 'cos "you gotta spread the love", then go back to that post occasionally and hopefully by then you'll be able to rep it - assuming you've been repping in between to make up the required number of reps.

Because I have recent unfortunate run-ins with this from missing information already posted in another thread. I have gone and read a number of threads on this.
I think rep should be given but only positive.... for those who make a greta contribution.
And leave negative rep solely to be done by moderators. It seems people maybe a bit too willing to use negative rep.
Maybe make a function such as a small form for neg rep given; that is sent to a moderator, that has to read and approve with info such as the thread, post and reason why neg rep should be given. This would aid in elimnate shitfights...
Or limit the ability to give neg rep until you have a big positive rep.

I got neg reped to zero cause I was stupid enough to beg for rep in my signature, so I got a heap of "heres the rep you wanted haha"s. And a couple of posts where I sincerely missed information in another thread.

Who's going to have the time to read all of these silly forms? Everybody needs to just get over the rep thing. Way to much focus is placed on it. Go outside and work on your car the intehnet isn't everything....

you asked for rep in your sig, had a sig above the 5 line limit, you some how managed to miss threads which were near the top of the list, questioned the validity of rep.
your another newcastle hachi owner arent you? they asways seem to get neg repped all the time. must be something in the water up there

    .
in reality, neg rep goes up at a bit less than half of your positive rep. ie

    + -
    1 1
    2 1
    3 1
    4 2
    5 2
    6 3
    7 3

etc.. so they amount of neg rep given is always half or less than pos rep. i guess this is so that if someone makes 1 bad comment, they are not removed from the face of the earth (much) but if they make an equally good comment, then they get back the neg and go further..

but yeah.. rep should be a non-issue.. it should be a non-invasive way to appreciate or condemn ppls posts, but unfortunately for some it is all they see (and others are not responsible in their usage..... just like real life )
