Click on the links to the left or the images below to display the data. Of the 49 Celicas in the database, 13 are completely filled in, and 39 are almost complete. This is a fill rate of 26.53% to 79.59%. There are an estimated total of 75 Celica models. This leaves 26 unknown models, with a discovery rate of 65.33%. By approximation this reference is 17.33% to 52.00% complete.
There are the 38 Celicas which have a picture.

I recently obtained an early 80's TRD parts book, and to my surprise all of the Carbie upgrades were for Dellorto Carbs. No Webers or Solex carbs just Dellorto's. The book covered "K" "T" "R" "A" and "M" series engine were all featured. There were no EFI options only Dellorto carbs. Makes me feel good as I have these fitted to one of my engines.

So even though Solex carbs were factory, TRD were pushing the Italian made Dellorto's.

I'm also a big fan of the old solex carburettors. I have a pair of the "second style of 40PHH, Type T" carburettors shown in the last pic of RT104GT's first post on my 2tg.

Did they ever come out on the 2tg or just the 18rg? The paragraph below leads me to believe no.

From http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/carbid.html "This is the second style of 40PHH, Type T. This unit was OEM for Toyota, hence - Type T, and came on several models that used the 18RG and TTC motors. Uses standard 40PHH kits and parts believe it or not. The Type T jet cover gasket and float adjuster gasket are NLA however. It just looks funky because the Float Chamber Cover is so different. Throttle Butterfly will have 165 stamped on the back of it."

I have had 2 pairs of these carburettors and I found them to sound a bit louder than my friends more commonly found solex carburettors in the first pictures, although this is just in my experience.

I have just fitted ram tubes on mine, although the tubes leave the choke air inlets unfiltered so I will need to seal them off or make some kind of filter.

Sound of my 1st pair 6 megs (bit big)

    Cheers

In answer did they use them on 2TG, yes sir. In fact my motley unmatched pair i think came off a 2TG. Unsure of jettings. 18RG usually had 145 or 135 mains and 165 or 170 Air, easy to see as the sizes are stamped on the jets that screws down into the carbs under that solex cover.

2TG would I think have smaller jets 125 or less fuel and 135 air? maybe?

The 240Z cars for the RAC were described by the works as "fairly standard", but as the model had only been launched a matter of weeks earlier at the Motor Show nobody knew what "standard" was. It turned out that the power output had been raised by a third to 200 bhp by the addition of three twin choke Mikuni-Solex carburettors (similar to Weber DCOE),

No. EFI doesn't increase your HP. It may improve the "driveability" of the engine throughout the entire rev range, but it will not increase your HP. The biggest problem with carbs is they go out of tune and require maintenance, and in the case of the dual Solex, they require someone who really knows what they are doing. Most carbys have never been touched and go out of tune and therefore rather then get them retuned/rebuilt people just assume carbs are crap and EFI is much better.

Some of the lost power of the later 18R-GUE and 2T-GUE engines was due to larger valves and a better head design, not due to the introduction of EFI.

Toyota used Solex in its racing Celicas throughout the early/mid 70s in favour of using Webbers, which highlights that as far as Toyota was concerned, the Solex out performed the Webbers.

Ah memories.. reminds me of the time I had my Scorpion and I stuck on a fairly rare set of 42mm twin DCOE Weber's with those same ram tubes and blood-red Redline socks. This bitch growled like a lion on take-off, but purred like a kitten at idle. Just sounded so sweet...

Andrew you are mature and an engineer now!!!

We all grow up with time.

    At least some do

Rallying an RT40 1600S in 1974 with similar configuration and thinking we could win. eek:

Note the Thermatic fans electric no the less, radical in those days and a necessity to fit the 8RB engine in behind the radiator (no rooom for the fan blade).
