Default Alternator Wiring 4AGE -> Ke30 Loom Solved

Hey guys, Hopefully you can help me otherwise i'll call sideshow/teh witzl for a visit.

Im having a problem getting the Standard Ke30 Charge Light to work with an Internally Regulated 4age Alternator.

I have read Witzls diagram on installing one of these, however it doesnt seem the same.

From what i can understand, testing aswell as looking at a ke30 wiring diagram for the loom, that the Charge Light works only with a positive supply of 12v from the engine bay(Old externally regulated plug).

I have turfed the regulator and now im using the two wires of it(Charge Light and Ignition Wire) I ran a new sense wire along with two +B wires straight to the battery using fusable links inbetween.(also why are fusable links no good?)

If i connect the Charge light on the dash directly to the charge light terminal on the Alt it doesnt turn on. I guess this is cause it needs a positive 12v not an earth which is what the alt puts out(From my understanding)

Now i have tried putting in a relay to create the positive 12v's.

(Using standard Relay) Relay diagram as such:

This still doesnt work. However if i earth the wire going to the alt L terminal the charge light does come on, indicating that the bulb isnt blown nor a fuse.
So You guys have an idea what im doing wrong? Could it be the Alt is stuffed? I have tried another Alt but they are all second hand.

    Thanx guys and gals,
    Adam

turn key to ON position and check the voltage of the charge light terminal.
if there is no voltage, check if there is continuity to ground
    next
when engine is on, check the voltage of the alternator... 13.5-14.5V
also check the voltage of the charge light terminal.
    etc..

The light on the dash needs to be connected to 12v+ on one leg, and to the charge lead on the other leg.
What happens is that when the alternator isnt running at spec there is a voltage differential which will light the lamp, but when it is running at spec there isnt any voltage differential and so the lamp lights.

Its been a while since Ive done a ke30 but i think we used to just bridge 2 wires on the regulator plug

If you could remember it would be tops. I'll look at it on monday night and try to work it out. do a few more tests and post up results. Could it be the alternator is stuffed?

Hey cuzzo, grab a test light, connect the lead to earth and the probe to the warning light wire on the alternator. Turn on the ignition and the warning light should come on (it may be a little dull but this is only because it is earthing through the test light). If it comes on with the test light but not when connected to the alternator, then it is more than likely that the alternator is stuffed.
If I wasn't so busy I would offer to come around and give you a hand with it, but unfortunately things are a bit hectic at the moment.

Also it wont work with a relay as the alternator needs the power coming through the warning light to start it charging.

yes it could be the alternator possibly.
also have you checked that the charge globe isnt blown. Ive fell for that before.
you should not need a relay in your charging circuit.
if you cant get it sorted I can come round and give you a hand coz im a auto elec.

Well guys. i cant rep up enough for the help and offers of comming around to help me.
I finally worked it out today. After staring at the back of the dash working out were all the circuits go and intergrate with what. Using a ke55 diagram and everyones help, i traced it down to the fuse panel.

Now what everyone was saying is correct, if i earthed the charge light wire it would light up. However it wouldnt for me untill i found the Broken(not blown) fuse. Its the old circle type which when checked it was together, then i pull all fuses out again and all the caps pop off them showing me where they are broken.

Also i have no idea why or how that if i give the L wire from the dash 12v's +ve the light comes on. Just thinking how could it possibly earth if the other end goes to 12v IGN??

    For Future References:
With KE30's and 55 prob even 20's the 12v IGN source for the dash lights and gauges comes from the fuse which also runs the demister. Weird Hey???

Thanx heaps for everyones help. Million Rep to ya'll
