Pretty tall motor. Will it fit under the bonnet or is that not a concern?
Well after much discussion, research, many engine purchases, I have finally settled on fitting a 3RZ into my KE70 Daily.
The engine arrived friday and looking at the prelininary fittment, it should be a fairly straight forward conversion....well as straight forward as any fitting of an engine into a car it was never made to go in.
The first issue that has arrisen is the sump, the standard sump will not fit, so this week will begin the process of finding out what sump will fit and what pick up will work with that sump, so should you have any of this information it would be greatly appreciated.
The next on the list is the computer side, the engine came with computer and loom, but I noticed yesterday that the air flow meter is missing as id one of the plugs that I assume goes from the computer into the main loom on the car. So with this little dilema I am now thinking that it will be much easier to just fit a Microtech computer to it from the start, this will give much better flexibility down the track when we turbo it, which is enevitable
I already have an LSD hilux rear end ready for the car, as well as a full T3 Coil over suspension set up waiting to go into it. The main thing I want to find out by doing this conversion is firstly how hard is the conversion, to see if we can readily duplicate the conversion for others, secondly what power it makes and how it feels on the road and track as a drifter, as I feel this engine would make a perfect step up and relacement for the current 4age conversion, but with I hope more power and of course more torque, but time will tell what the results of the converion really are

just modify the standard sump? should onyl take a bit of cutting and welding.
what does it foul on?
The 3RZ has a rear sump area and the KE cross member suits a front sump.
I am subscribing to this thread because I am interested in following it.
I took some basic measurements of the 3RZ the other day. The motor is about 700~720mm tall (from bottom of sump to the top of the intake manifold/plenum) and is ~530mm from the sump mounting face to the top. The length is ~720mm.
edited to give measurements

YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
ah ok, so the problem will be moret he oil pickup than the supm, but this can be modified also. easier to get a stock one that fits i guess!
the front sumps do exisit, although they don't have a step in them like the traditional front sumps. There may be others, but this is what i've found.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
tacoma is a pickup truck that toyota make that was only ever released in america, and maybe europe.
its basically americas hilux...

Fantastic info, thanks for the post up guys, keep them coming, as far as height goes I will wait and see when its in, it might get an XR8 "Power Bulge" scoop if it is too close.Originally Posted by c2888

I looked at this before fitting the 1JZ, but turned away from it due to the height of the motor & requirement to modify the sump. Plus they were just too damn expensive at the time compared to a JZ
Are you planning to register it? Cause its outside of the capacity regulations as per the new National Code of Practice
AE71 Corolla 2 door window van - retired / JZA70 Supra - VVTi converted - sold

As far as rego goes, I have 3 spares at the moment I might just have to buy a few more
I think the Sprinter might be just outside those laws as well, but that is still registered, you have to love the rules in SA.

LC Engineering 3RZ dry sump - major PITA for the street but f you're trying to squeeze it under the bonnet......
Looks like rear sump here.

now this sounds interesting
If it were me (and it's not, let's not forget that) I wouldn't be overly concerned with the sump configuration..... couldn't you just jimmy up the middle section of the crossmember to go around whatever sump config the 3RZ has?
I mean too-be-for box tube aint exact rocket surgical instrumentation now is it?
I'd be keen on building a spazmobile 3RZ car of some kind, but i'm a dreamer with no money, so i'll shuttup now.
...... butt scratcher?!
LOL...Hey Karl how you doing.
I had thought of just hammering the sump up to clear it, that will be ok wont it?
What colour Spazmobile are you building.
