Is there anyway to identify a 3S-G Head as a Mate Of Mine Swears He has a Bare Head Sitting in his Workshop.
As I don't Know the 3S as well as I would like Is there any Identifying Marks for this Head.
I would like to if it is One attempt a 3S-G Head onto a 2S Bottom End. Just for the Hell of it.
Any Method to Identify would be Greatly Appreciated.

The 2S has a different bore x stroke to the 3S - 84by90 vs 86by86 - I imagine there would be differences.
You would probably only use the 2S block to get slightly more torque, but then a 5S would be a lot more worthwhile if that's what you're after. If you want a 2L S engine with a G head, the 3SGE is already around with basically everything better than a 2S with a G head
As you're doing it for kicks, try it and tell us how it goes. Other than having the parts, I can't really imagine why anyone would do that.
It would probably also help to post a photo of what you have here - someone should be able to identify it.

Looks Good, It is a Bare Head But This Gentleman is Giving it to me for a Bottle of Johnny Walker Red, So I can't Really lose with Making the Conversion. I will Post Images as soon as I Can get them.
What I was trying To ask Is there any Stamp Marks or Serials to Identify this Head?

gen 1 & gen 2 heads have the valve buckets under the shims, gen 3+ heads have the shims under the buckets.
If you're trying to tell whether it's a 3SF or 3SG head, that's easy - see how many cam pulleys it's got!
I was after a way to Identify It as The Person I Was Talking to, Reckons it is Toyota 3SG But was Not Certain, It Looks Right, But it does not have the Cam Pulleys attached, It is a Bare Head with Camshafts and Valves. 4 Valves Per Cylinder Centre Positioned Spark Plugs, No Rockers (Cam Rides on Valves) That Is all I Know at this Stage
i am in the middle of making a 2sg aka 2s bottom end with a 3sg head and let me tell you the head it's self will bolt on but then theres more to it you'll need to run 3sg pistons and then theres the problem of which crank to run then after that if you do run 3sg pistons you need to run 3sg rods then theres a few more head farks i have yet to come across
let me tell you if i was doing it agen i would be looking in to runing a 5s crank/ mabe block with some sort of blower of some description

there not high in sence but there a flat top with a sorta squalsh pad recessed in which i dont think would be very friendly with a 16v head both for valves and compression
as i said your best off buy a hole 3sge and a short motor 2s and doing it from there
it's not as easy as bolt on bolt off theres little shitty things like the dizzy,ignion,efi if your not going to run efi if not then theres the injectors holes that need to be fill up so on
As far as I know if it's an FE head it will only have one cam pulley, the cams are run using a scissor drive setup, even without the pulleys on it would be evident if it was an FE! That's what mrshin was getting atOriginally Posted by vin91

This is what a 3SFE head looks like:
3SGE Gen 1 head as per the pictures posted above (the main difference is the design of the sparkplug 'valley'. Gen 1 has two separate cam covers and a valley that runs the whole length of the head.
This is what a 3SGE Gen 2 head looks like:
Note the difference in the design of the spark plug valley.
This is what a 3SGE Gen 3 head looks like:
Slight differences, bucket-over-shim arrangment for the valve shims.
