Default 7MGTE - one last question

    hey all... again...

im sure by now your all sick of my stupid ass questions, as i try to get my 7MGTE, which i know has a blown head gasket, but the guy at the workshop that did it originally sayts hes done the TK test and found nothing etc. etc.

but, i am confused about this timing issue.

as you can see on my picasso of a picture, the CAS has been fully adjusted one way, now, im not sure if its fully adjusted as much s it can go retarded, or advanced, but due to the fact that it still lives, im guessing retarded.

as you can guess, this sucks balls for two reasons, power, and fuel economy, seeing as, due to the shittier power, i have to work the motor twice as hard to get the same result.

this car pulled like a freight train when it was still jap spec, before, and even during the first BHG (the first one i repaired anyway.

so, bottom line, can someone tell me whether bringing it back into the centre of adjustment will retard it, or advance it, no i dont have a timing light, but im sure i can source one from somewhere, i just want to know from curiosity.

note: its been set like this since i got it back from having the head reconditioned, the car runs perfectly, idle is fine, power isnt shockingly bad, it doesnt overheat etc. etc.

    Cheers!

My old 7mgte used to be strange with the timing. At the jap spec 12 degree's btdc it was a slug but when i retarded it to 20 btdc it pulled like a rocket. Found out in the end it was a dodgy knock sencer.

ive put the thing in diagnostics mode, nothing wrong...
turned it off, taken the pin out, disconnected the O2 sensor completely, put the pin back in, nothing wrong again.

    this car, is fucking stupid.

someone give me a set of UZA70 engine mounts, im sick of this shit.

also, which way did you swing it to retard it?

im thinking of having a fiddle around, moving it slightly back up to centre and seeing if that makes and difference...

Just get hold of a timing light and you'll soon know which way does what! I wouldn't fuck with it without a timing light anyway, personally.

You need to take the black plastic cover off the CPS and you will see the little wheel that turns inside the CPS.

YOu need to align the wheel with the timing mark on the inside of the CPS when the motor is set at TDC.

The slotted bolt hole is just for minor adjustment for the last few degrees of the CPS.

But i doubt the very bottom of the slot is going to be the right place for it.

thanks for that glenn, im aiming to reset the timing somewhat soon.

something weird happened today, i fixed a somewhat minor boost leak, and....

for the first time, since i got it, its back to pulling like it used to, only pulled like this for the first week i had it, before it blew the head gasket

i really cant describe it, but its quick, its completely stock, and ive been told its quicker than it should be....

maybe the fact that my sump is held on by different types of bolts has something to do with it...

they're non factory bolts.... got a star shape in them... torx?
