according to these guys they are interchangable
Dan
Can they be swapped?
I've heard no, because the pinion is different with them.
Does anyone know?
We're looking to fit a 4.8:1 or so to a 6-speed but apparently that could be hard to do.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
ive never used a six speed bill as i need the extra strength, but you could work it out from the aftermarket diffs for them i would imagine or factory part numbers.
ill have a look see and see what i can find out.
Hi,
The KAAZ product list shows that they are the same part number for 5/6 speed.

Thanks guys.
Well the diffs themselves seem the same, but we're really after a crownwheel & pinion.
Any more ideas?
The diffs themselves can interchange C52/c56/c160.
The final drive pinion gear is part of the output shaft. So you cant just slap on a 4.8:1 crown wheel.
Im yet to see a company that makes a final drive for the c160 gearbox.

Could the 5-speed pinion be modified ... ?
in theory i guess you could cut the shaft and machine a new pinion and either bolt or weld it on to the rest of the gears.Originally Posted by Billzilla
realistically.....i doubt it. not worth the risk or expense
sorry i dont have any pics to show what i mean

I don't know about the C series boxes but the E series came from the factory with both 3.93 and 4.29 ratios which can be swapped between boxes using the relevant standard parts.
TRD do a 4.7 ratio
its just the crown wheel
id have to double check but im 99% sure the 6 speed and 5 speed diff parts etc are interchangble
The other thing we're looking at is using a 5-speed but with a 4.7:1 ratio. Just gotta work out the numbers.
But keep feeding me info guys!
This is the final gear set for a ncp10, but it shows what S.W.A.M.I. is trying to say about the gears being on the shaft that the pinion lives on.
info for ae101 gearsets are on this page
http://trdparts.jp/english/list_race-mis_ae101.html
and for ae111
http://trdparts.jp/english/list_race-mis_ae111.html
the close ratios would really wake up the 20vs

the kits for the ae101 and ae111 are the same
not all that cheap either
Thanks Dan, that shows it clearly.Originally Posted by c2888
