is your ECU earthed correctly? and theres' nothing rattling around the ECU itself ?
Today while attempting to check my timing I've noticed a new problem - with the ECU in diagnostic mode (TE1 and E1 bridged) the engine wont hold idle. Actually, as soon as i bridge the terminals the engine stalls! If i held the throttle slightly open as i bridged the terminals the revs would pick up, hold a low idle for about 45 seconds and then stall again (revs slowly drop off, not a sudden stall).
Does this mean i have a problem which needs to be addressed or is it just an annoyance?
It did something similar last time I checked timing (about 6 months ago) but it wouldn't stall if the throttle was held until the idle stabilised. It also threw up code 12 this time, which is no RPM signal after cranking, but i've not noticed any problems at all - the engine seems to run 100% fine at all other times. I've reset the computer to see if it brings the code up again.
The engine is a Gen 3 3SGE from a ST202. I did the wiring myself, maybe i cocked up somewhere?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Andy

Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
I believe you're supposed to bridge the terminals BEFORE you start the engine. This puts the car into limp mode. You're not trying to bridge the terminals whie the engine is running, are you??![]()

definately bridge before starting
Excuse me?!?!?!?!@?!?@
Bridge before starting??!??@!??@!
pffft. I think not.
Doesn't matter a shit when you bridge it.
Just make sure the ISCV is clean internally and the TPS is set in IDL when your foot is off the pedal.
50% of stalling issues are caused by this.
The other 50% is caused by a leak after the AFM (not sure if you are MAP or not)

Yeah thats what I have found, on both my 3sge and 7mgte, It didn't matter at all for me...Originally Posted by CrUZida

As for your problem, that's a strange one. I'm with CrUZ. Check the TPS is in IDL, check the ISCV is clean. I can't see any reason for the wiring used in the conversion to affect the diagnostics.

what i meant to say was, if the terminals are bridged and i start the engine then is stalls straight away. If i bridge the terminals after its started then it will stall unless i hold the throttle open.
I've already cleaned the ISCV (after seeing your write up on it i believe cruzida) and that fixed another idling issue it had with the air con - thanks for that! I'll check the TPS setting next chance i get, hopefully the procedure will be the same as the Gen 1 engine. It runs a MAP so i dont think it'll be related to a vac leak but i'll double check the line running to the sensor - it may have been damaged in transport before i bought it!
Thanks for the help, i'll let you know how it goes!

Everything I have ever read (BGB) says quite clearly not to start the engine with the diagnostics bridged. I don't know why, but that is what it says!
