The 2JZ JZS147 torque converter is a lot larger than an MX83 7M-GE and JZX81 1JZ-GTE (which both looked identical). It's about 50% thicker and larger in diameter. The bellhousing is also taller (ie more space between box and block).

I had my 1J stall convertor modified to stall at around 2800, and after a week or so of driving it's hardly noticable, & causes absolutely no trouble on the street/in traffic. I had this done by MV Autos here in SA.
Phil, my brother should be able to snap a few pics of his stall convertor tomorrow, & if he doesn't I'll try to remember to do it myself.
I can take a pic of my 4000rpm stall. It started life as a jzx81 converter and now has a tarago cover on it. I can't remember the size difference though sorry as it was a while ago that I got it now. Smaller the diameter converter, the higher stall you can achieve. Also, if you go to small, then they can't fit the lockup clutch in.
I will get a pic of it tonight![]()
Thanks Joel, i'll snap some shots of mine too for comparison.
How much boost do you make on the line with the stock turbos & 2800 stall?

I think my lux stalls at just over 2, like 2,200 i can't get much more on board than that... and most of the time anything over 2K results in the revs spiking to like 4 before i notice.. but locking in 2nd ive had 2,200.
I'm not too sure Phil, I've got the boost guage stashed in the glovebox so it's pretty hard to keep an eye on both boost & revs..... I'll go out for a drive now & see what I can come up with.![]()
I had a bit of a play with it today, hard to find a nice quiet area with no traffic & no old people ready to give you a good staring at from their front yard if you so much as rev your engine over 2000rpm.....
But, boost comes on pretty quick once it gets to around 2800, before that there doesn't seem to be enough load to make boost, I noticed about 5psi at 2800 and 10 at 3000ish, before the wheels started to fry.
This has prompted me to move my boost guage to somewhere a bit more visible, so I'll have a better result eventually.
hahaSmoke some tyres Joel! I'm keen to find out the result.
Thanks

Sorry, couldn't get pic of converter last night (was getting ready for dyno today and bloody uni assignment) I will check those measurements tonight though!
Spoke to Peter today. He said that there are big and small converters for the A340. I think the 1JZs come with the small ones. They are cheaper and easier to mod to high stall. The big ones (2JZ from what I can tell) are harder to mod and cost $480 compared to $370 for the smaller ones. You can't just use the small one because it has a different number of splines on it.
