yeah at the top, the converters still have fluid in them so i can't see the bottom set
i am sure your converter would match it man, if it fitted it, it matched it, my theory
Awesome thanks Joel. Which group of splines did you count? At the top or bottom when looking into the converter?
This is all getting a bit confusingI really need to get my gearbox back out of the car to see if my converter actually matches the box!

dude did you count the splines in the converter, or on the gearbox?Originally Posted by 2JZR31
the converter has gaps where there are no splines, cause my input shaft from the box has about 38 splines, and 20 for the smaller one

Never fitted it, so don't know thats true.... the box is bolted to the motor, in the car (dummy fit that went too far), and both have to come out together.Originally Posted by wiso
I counted splines in the converter. 20 at the bottom, 26 at the top (4 groups of 4, 2 groups of 5)

well if its the same box as mine an 30 40LE it should be fine, did your motor come from a soarer by chance? your measurements are pretty close to mine, i don't think i am dead on accurate

thing thing i really wanna know now is what are the standard stall rpm of these 2 converters i have. i have to decide which one i should put in the car.
thing is i am not sure when i did the jza70 box i have in, did i stuff the torque converter, does anybody know if i could have stuffed it when i didn't put it on right and fucked the pump up? all the splines still appear to be in the converter

The smaller one will probably stall higher.
is it the thickness that matters, or overall diameter? casue they are the same diameter, but the A70 one measures a bit thinner

Well then the A70 one is smaller
I think both dimensions matter. Diameter is probably the most important though. But if you have to the same dia then the thinner one will most probably stall a bit higher AFAICT.
Just go ahead & send the converter to MV or QCT anyway Joel, you know you want the extra stall![]()

Would highly recommend getting a little extra stall before you put it in if that is what you are up to. If you are on stock turbos, 2600-2800stall will be good. If you plan to upgrade go for a 3000. That may not be high enough for a single turbo depending on size though.
I have a JZX81 Chaser A341LE torque converter sitting on the garage floor if you need measurements![]()
