    Default TA22 wheel width.

I know stock TA22 wheels are 165mm. does this mean they are a 6 inch wheel?

    thanks

    165mm / 25.4 (mm per inch)= 6.49 inches.

makes me feel old converting metric to imperial for someone.

but you can fit different width tyres to the same size rim cant you?
are the stock wheels of a ta22 actually 6.5 inches?

You can go up a bit in width, Inhave often run 10" tyreson 8" rims.

Not sure what width original TA22 rims are, owners manual that i have only shows tyre size as 6.45 (cross ply) as standard, 165 as an option and 185 as option on GT.

A stock TA22 rim is only 4.5" wide.

You mean stock tyres not wheels.

so according to http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...vsi09_rev4.pdf (on page 3)
the maximun width that is able to be certified by an engineer is 6 inches?

Or was there a wider wheel optional on the GT?

    Talking Re: TA22 wheel width.

    Kugs,

If you keep the stock TA22 diff then 6 1/2" wide is the max allowable in NSW. The GT rim was a 5" item.

The RA23 had a 5 1/2" rim so you can tell your engineer you fitted an RA23 diff and run a 7" wide one, he won't know the difference anyway The rim widths allowable are in relation to the axel used not the car itself Hence if you upgrade to a hilux diff or the liek you can much wider.

When you get to tires you can reference this:

    ok thanks toyman.

    my next question is;

    1) What is the widest rim that can be engineered on a hilux diff?
    2) Can 8" wide rims be squeezed under the rear of a TA22?

    thanks

    Kugs,

What year model is your TA22 ??

The hilux's have come with up to 8" wide option alloys from memory but your engineer probably wont ask anyway if you use one. The Hilux diff is fairly well regarded and designed to handle a much taller tyre than a street car.

My TA22 is a 73 model so has the smaller rear wheel arches, I only have 225's under the back on 7" wide rims, I have run 235's under the rear of the 74 & 75 model TA22's. An 8" Rim will fit no worries with the right offset.

225mm / 25.4 = 8.86 so that more than allows for an 8" rim and the rim lip. (An 8 " rim will be just under 9" wide

    its a 1975.

The rims are wearing 225 tyres. Any idea what the offset will need to be?
I dont know what offset they are but they are coming off an rx7.
