ta22 - wheel problem -

Bought a set of 17x7's for my old girl. They look the part ...

However she's got very little turning circle and is scrubbing out at the front end. Approached OZZY TYRES for a solution. The tech guy there said he could make them fit, used a bunch of terms i've never heard of ... not in the know when it comes to this sort of thing. But he said he could do it and it suited me just fine . However the sales rep called me up and told me to come in and chat about the mags. He tells me they won't fit and to buy another set of 17's instead. However, he failed to realise that the mags he was tryign to sell me where the exact same size. I just think he wants to sell me new mags.

These mags came off a 1974 celica that was written off and the fit nicely on that vehicle. However on mine..they dont. What can i do?

byrnziecelica, mate, did the other (wrecked) celica have the same front struts and brakes?, did that car run spacers?, are you running any spacers?

From the pic, it looks like your front wheels will be fouling on the rear inside guard. 17"x7" on an old school Celica is a big ask, without some mods,

Are they only scrubbing when you turn?(at the bottom corner of the guard) Perhaps the castor can be adjusted? I'm looking into a similar problem I'm having with mine.

I don't know about the wrecked one, but mine isn't running spacers. She isnt hitting the front of the guards, its rubbing on actually chassis inside the guard when turning. They seem far back in the guard, which is what the tech told me and he could adjust them forward. Which seemed far out to me but I really don't know much about this subject..

There is only about 5mm if that in it to get her enough clearance to avoid rubbing. Apparently I can't go a lower profile either.

Yes the "Tech" is correct, you can dial in more caster, on a wheel aligner. You can also adjust the steering stops, this will increase your turning circle, but prevent the tyres rubbing. This should be done in conjunction with the caster change.

id have to agree with the tech as well... get the car fully alligned properly and also put 5-10mm spacers for good measure... also i would put the spacers before you go for an alignment to ensure that the alignment is done with the spacers in place and it gets done right with everything in as needed

Yep, you need to adjust the caster for the wheel alignment.

Is it rubbing on the inside side of the tyre or outside edge? If its the inside you could put a spacer in (which is not the best or safest option, but the easiest).
How much gap is there between the inside of the tyre and the strut?

I'm running 15X7 with 205 tyres on the front of my TA22 and I have no rubbing and only around 5mm gap between the tyre and strut. the tyres also just miss the inside of the chassis as you describe, eg 3 or 4mm gap
