you have to remmeber, public scales are ruff at best and hanging the car half over the scales with out knowing and putting the car within a few mill will give you a big error. I think i could guess better!

the position of the CoG relative to the cars's position on the scales wont change the value. the wheels can be just on or fully on

you can drive back and forth all day on the scales and the value will never change. as long as the rear wheels stay on and front wheels stay off and there isnt a huge step up.

Could you also measure the sag on springs in the car. ie jack car up and measure spring height, then with the springs stiffness, measure the sag on each corner when you jack it down and work out the weight on each corner?

we usually get someone to stand on each of the scales to make sure they are all reading the same dosent matter too much if they are out as long as they are all out the same

Olk so if i put the rear wheels on the scales 100mm from the front of the scales{the same as the front of the car}which means the rear wheels are just on the scales. You think this will not be diffrent from a car that has its rear wheels just off the scales and the front of the cars on the scales?

crap, you drop an alloy scale and it can be out plenty! thats without even putting the car on it. Thats the diffrence between people that know and people that have a stab in the dark!

The coilovers on the SAE car are in a bitch of a place to get to, fronts are under the driver's knees and the rears and sandwiched between chassis members so you can barely fit your hand in there, let alone a wrench

Besides the fact that that is the worst backyard practice that i have ever heard of! real racers like to know the all up weight. Real races put in or take out 5 litres of fuel to get things right!

    just cars

there is one thing i have been disregarding in this discussion until now..... adding weight to the edge of the scales will probably give inaccurate readings.

ideally you would want to load a scale directly in the middle if possible for the most accurate results.
