    Default 20v idle help

    My 20v conversion is complete......

however my car cannot idle let alone stay alive (unless i keep reving it)

ive moved the timing through its entire range and it wont idle for long at best

    anything i can do....

ive been playing around with the afm screw which lets air through the bypass still not getting better

    tips?

    change your sparkplugs
    borrow some known good leads

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

i think it's your idle control motor.. ISCV? a vacuum leak is happening somewhere, or the motor is fubbared...

good idea to chech your spark plugs, although IMO if it revs, fouled plugs won't cause erractic idle until it stalls.. if it is really that fouled, u won't be able to rev..

Does it run baddly through the rev range or just at idle revs?

check your fault codes. id suspect ISCV is part of the problem as that does seriously affect how the car runs if its not connected/working. reset timing back to base too if you can.

quick fix = bump the idle up... if it idles high enough it won't stall.. but u'll have other problems to follow.. e.g. heat, fuel consumption etc..

TPS could be off the mark as well... but make the engine run that bad..

im with mr vios on this too, make sure your tps' IDL switch is on when the throttles are closed. There should be documentation floating around with gap measurements for precise adjustment.

Isn't that a bit outrageous to suggest such a thing, when all he has said is that it's not idling?

well.. "not idling" is a very broad problem..

small end of the scale = idle control motor, TPS.. .. and since we don't know if it runs rough through the rev range and all... the harsh end of the stick would be something serious..? e.g. valves, BHG, shot rings... well a motor can always be rebuilt eh... but let's hope it doesn't come to that..

*meh* probably did sound a bit harsh.. apologies for that

    can be afew things

but air flow screw or tps adjustment or plugs or leads wont cause this problem
    its prob an air leak

it could be wiring but i doubt it was it done by someone who knows what there doin
im always fixing fuk ups from other peoples fukups

there is afew vac lines under the plenum most small ones but one is atleast 16mm diameter this one feeds air to the idle motor and if its left open then the air flow meter wont measure this air and the air flow meter will close and then turn of the fuel pump then
    engine will stall

ive had this prob many times cause the dumb mechanics have no idea about 20vs

even if the idle motor was not working the 20vs should still idle just

another thing to do is remove the light green cover over the idle motor this is the magnet for it
and u will see a small cylinder thing
this thing twists either way slightly sort of small pulses
check to see this twists freely about 5 mm each way
if this is seized it should free up with pliers

iscv is connected. other vac lines blocked. when i rev it, it is kinda laggy and doesn't respond. no air leaks

ill get video of it soon... thanks for the help hopefully the motor is fine

the big 16 or 20 mm vac line under neath the intake that runs into idle motor must be coinnected
the idle motor has to big vac lines
    one before butterflies
and one after otherwise it will idle very low

    listen to Mr Sideshow.
WIthout those large ~15mm air lines, the engine isnt getting enough air past the throttles to allow the engine to run! There is no "idle screw" on a 20V to adjust the idle speed like there is on a regular 4age.....

... and return the idle mixture screw to factory setting.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

I found with mine that the throttle bodies would gum up a little every now and again. I just pulled the airbox off and sprayed carbie cleaner down the TBs then it would idle nicely again.

beware when using carby cleaner on throttle bodies

some throttle bodies like nissan gtirs have teflon coating over the butterflies

carby clean might eat this layer off and u might get a permanant hi idle
    if car was runnin right
