the clutch in the nightmare is a PBR heavy duty clutch to suit 5m flywheel....
thats pretty similar to what i had though....
GT, you had me almost excited when you mentioned late 5mges had 240mm flywheels... then i remembered my 5mge was originally auto5m-e gear on the back of it no doubt

just a quick question-
is there a 'big clutch type' 7mge flywheel, or are they all the same??
thanks for your help everyone.![]()
another option I've found:
http://www.rabidchimp.com/mk2sup_actclutches.htm
I'd probably go the 355ft/lbs option- which is about 480nm of torque... which should cover a 200rwkw 7MGTE fairly easily.... comes to roughly $500AUD inc. shipping....
Or would it simply be better going around to the clutch shops?
You'd be looking at closer to $700 including shipping and customs.
Take the stuff to a local clutch shop, and say how you plan to drive it, projected power/torque, and what type of clutch you want.

Sorry to be Mr. thread Necro once more, but...
The 2JZGE pressure plate will fit on the 7mge flywheel, is that certain?
Also thanks for the pictures Wilbo. they helped determine that the flywheel I have been sent is in fact a 225mm one. Drat!
Thanks guys.
I have a 5 puck sprung clutch with a modded hilux heavy duty pressure plate. It put up with everything i threw at the 7MGE but its about to go behind the GTE so we'll see what happens.
I think I paid about $600 for the mod machinging of fly wheel and the clutch and pressure plate.

After ringing around many many places, I think I'm gonna head down to BGT in Hawthorn with my 7MGE flywheel and get a Sprung-centre button clutch made up, with strengthened pressure plate and new bearing...
Is there much difference between 3, 5 and 6 puck button clutches? Power figure will be slightly over 200rwkw....
Thanks for all the help guys...![]()
More pucks = easier to drive, less on/off

ah, i figured as much! it wouldn't affect power holding abilities would it?
It could, depends on the compound used on the clutch plate
Basically, the lower the surface area of the clutch plate the higher the pressure on each puck. This can result in stronger holding power.

Yup, a 3-puck will practically never slip but you'll hate it on the street. A 5-puck is fairly streetable and a 7-puck is almost as smooth as a full-face organic plate, but more pucks means less grab. It's all a compromise...

Then you get into spring centre button clutches, which are more streetable again since you have that bit of give. A cushion button clutch will cost a significant amount more than a solid button, but for a street car it's not a bad choice.

Awesome help, thanks heaps.
I've been recommended a sprung-centre button clutch- I'm figuring I'll go for 4 or 5 pucks. Going to take a trip down to Melbourne next day I get off work and talk to clutch guys personally.
So my basic wishlist will be:
Sprung-centre button clutch, 4 or 5 puck
Strengthened pressure plate
Machine Flywheel
New thrust bearings
Aiming to spend <$600!! Hope it goes well.
Thanks heaps for the help everyone.
