V8 Soarer Won't rev past 3800RPM

Did you try the diagnostic check on the ECU? Couldn't see any mention of that being done yet.

is your speedo working and / or has anyone tried to bypass the 180km speed limiter?. I have heard of some jap cars having a secondary safety to stop people getting around the speed limiter by disconecting the speedo. IE they will not rev harder than top gear revs at 180km. in any gear . also check park nuetral switch for same reason .
Is it posible that your speedo has been "flicked" and damaged as a result, making the ECU think that it is not connected? and going into the above mentioned "safety mode".

i'm with wa5 on this one. toyota and nissans with the 180k limit do have a rev cut failsafe if the speed sensor fails (or is cut). i havn't seen a soarer do it but on couple of skylines i forgot the speed sensor when doing trans swaps, cars wouldn't rev past about 3800rpm interestingly. sounds like the same phenomenon.
there are two speed inputs on a soarer right?

that is usually on sr20s and fj20s that speed sensor cut

in 10 years have only seen no more than 5 nissan ecus with this prob

does it rev cut in only top gear or all gears

I can't see the timing lock being on (limp mode) without the CEL giving errors.
Limp mode will only engage if there is a fault with a sensor/device, which will throw a code.

i might be in qld for work in about 2 or 3 months

if its still got a problem then let us know and i can bring spare parts to test things

my 1uz started missing once every few mins while idling so ill change the leads with the spare set i have this weekend

if it misses at the exact revs every time and at different throttle positions then it might be an ecu fault

see if u can find a car to put yr ecu in and test it for same prob
