Wouldnt the new one from Toyota be the same as the original weak item?
Wouldnt cutting an extra slot in it weaken it further?

I thought it was shifting hard between gears that smashes it, not power.

I was always under the impression it became weak because oil didnt get down both sides

that one on the driftmotion site seems quite nice though...hmmm

Yep. Just a new factory Toyota one with additional oil gallery.

    Sorry no pics.

    correct

if u ask me - they fail because the harden surface weaks out and the weakest part is the notched key way - which if i were to redesign one - would be replaces with a ball bearing drive.

dont have to deal with this issue no more but

BTW im pretty sure a landcruise thrust washer and a supra r154 thrust washer share the same part number anyway

4 out of 5 breaks are completely symmetrical, the only one that isnt is in the keyway which makes me think the opposite...

unless you pull the box down or flush it with something else nothing.

if you drive the car for a bit before you drop the oil it will be hot and thinner visc and in theory should drain quicker and easier.

I doubt <~5% contamination will do any harm...

Use auto trans fluid like dexron 3. It is thinner and will flush it nicer. Only use for it for like one drive then dump it.

Just posting back for future players - I put RLSP in my r154 some months ago now after reading the info in this thread, so far so good. It improved the shifter feel between gears and has held up to some heavy launches at the strip which were enough to weld my button clutch to the flywheel on one occasion.
If your thinking about using it... it's atleast worth a try, working well for me!

OT: I've been waiting for the thrust washer to go - was going to make one, seems simple enough?

How hard is it to replace one of thse washers? And what happens when one lets go??? Things stop working?

I didnt use the shockproof, but i used the other Redline oil, MTL i think it was, and my gearbox shifts i think about the same... Havent noticed any gains, but i been using it for a while so i cant remember...

Infact i mighta already posted my opinions in here

    Cheers,

easy to replace if u mehanically minded.......

when mine let go - it wouldnt let me pull away in 1st gear....

when i put it first it didnt feel right, then when i tried slipping the clutch ot get away it popped out with a nasty crunching sound...

besides that drove fine in any other gear - got me home 30 ks
