    Default Heater core removal question MX83

    Hi to all

    When I bought my Cressida it was fitted with LPG which I have now removed but the hoses to the heater had been removed and then 2 hoses connected to the LPG convertor.

    I have fitted new correct hoses to the heater today ready for the rego inspection after the 2JZ swap is done and now have steam coming into the engine bay from the tunnel area and coolant loss? So it looks like the heater core is shot.

    The factory manuals (USDM) I bought only has 1 page on the heater (heater tap adjustment and part location!)

    Can anyone tell me what is involved in removing and replacing it thanks. Cressida Grande with climate control.
    Cheers

    Are you sure its the heater? That's in the cabin so unless its missing a hose clamp or has a hole in the pipe in the engine bay, it shouldn't be spewing steam in from the tunnel area.

    That said, its not a difficult job to do, but you do have to remove a lot of stuff to get it out - all the dash and interior cross brace have to come out. Just make sure you get all the screws before you pull the bits out and take pics of how things go back together.

    Pull the dash apart;

    Doesnt sound like your heater is screwed though, any coolant in the cabin?

    Thanks for the replies

    The windows and inside the car are not misting up nor is there any dampness in the carpet/floor area??? I have seen a few cars with blown heater cores and they fogged up the car inside really bad and/or dripping coolant from a drain above the transmission.

    I wondered if it was leaking hot coolant into the heater box then from a drain under the car but can't see one?

    I will check where the heater hose connects to the engine RHS incase the problem was there. I have bypassed the heater at the moment but will reconnect it and try again.

    Thanks again

    All sorted now :-)

    When I had removed the hoses some Toyota coolant missed the container underneath and ran down the engine pipes into the front heat sheilds which are lined with some material that absorbed it thus causing the steam.
    I have removed this front section as it will not fit the later 2JZ exhaust setup.

    They were and are still soaked with coolant after a long test run. See attachment.
