Although the 2T/3T is good for drag racing... it is gradually becoming replaced by the RZ engine family. The big twin cam 4s from the 90s Toyota trucks seem to be the current fast set up with some cars approaching 6 second 1/4 mile times

Totally correct, but the 3TC still cheaper to run and more reliable for the cars running on the 9's and 8's!

    Ehh.. what this actually means?

"For the same reason i am changing my powerplant on my TA64 to a 3TC a straight milling cut 42mm intake port down to the edge of the valve seat with welded lower port floor water jackets"

2/3T port are 40 mm wide outside so if bored to 42 mm there is no port.. Well, some in top and floor but nothing in sides.
    Please clarify..

The 3t intake ports from factory they are about 31mm round ID, The OD is about 45mm, At least the 1981 USDM 3TC that is the best head to have for that matter.

What i mean by 42mm is the intake valve, sorry for my mistake, actually the end mill used to mill port the head is 36mm to 38mm and hand detailed and finished.

Today just to refresh my memory I measured 2T head.It was 39,89 mm wide just before spring pad. There probably isn't different castings just because if you make the port wider you have to move the pushrods and have offset rockerarms..

Porting by milling the port.. well, that could be made that way.Only that the well flowing (and one having enough port area) port is not round.

When we port the 3tc heads we invade the water jackets on the floor of the port, we do weld those water jackets shut or use epoxy on them and then end mill port the head down straight to the valve seat and hand blend everything else it has worked perfect so far!

So summarizing at 28 inches of water (peak flows only...):

    2T stock = 140cfm
    2T ported with stock valve = 185cfm
    2T ported with 42mm valve = 197cfm
    2TG stock = 187cfm
    2TG mild ported with 45mm valve = 230cfm
Sorry I need to ask this, from the Garrett site it's stated that for a turbo engine each lb/min of flow will generate 10hp so is this saying that for the 2tg with big valve mod can only produce 180+hp?

    Hi there metcap,
If you are asking from a turbo perspective the lb/min reference is turbocharger mass flow in lb/min.
I have the basically stock pushrod T head (make that around 140cfm) putting out 320+hp at the flywheel because my turbocharger can output a high enough pressure ratio to keep jamming in more of those 1lb/min increments despite the restriction!

The big valve 2TG with same PSI from same turbo as mine would be significantly up on power... as long as the rest of the engine was built correctly...

    Cheers,

First off NME308 just wanna say that you're one of my heroes for creating a monster sleeper out of a dead weight 3tc, just puts to shame so many of us thats trying to make some decent power out of a twincam hybrid.

Ok so you're saying there's no limit to making hp out of a restrictive head/port if I'm able to up the boost? What port work have you done on your 3tc?

with 3TC stock head (140Cfm / 28" ) flow, that flow is capable to flow enough up to ~140 Hp, with 1Bar of boost, maximum ~280 hp, 1.5 bar 350 hp ... when everything else is matched together to work with that head..

1 bar = 100 kpa, so with 200 Kpa intake pressure with 28"H2O vacuum the port will flow up to 280 Cfm !! so in this case it is like restrictor...

but always Porting, cam, C/R , etc are going together, better match better power, better torgue = better results what is wanted...

Basicly, i cant belive you`re words, just talk... no pictures, no flow map.. just empty talk..

i can believe that you can make porting like that , but not with good flow and stable flow speed.. at this type porting.. basicly you just tell how not to be done this head porting works... (or i and morgo have been understand youre textes wrong)
